Catholics Stay Winning Millions In PPP

Not quite divine intervention or pennies from heaven . . . From one of our nicer readers, here's another reminder of how the almighty dollar makes the world run:

U.S. Catholic Church Received Billions in Taxpayer Funds from Paycheck Protection Program

The U.S. Catholic Church used an unprecedented exemption of federal rules to amass at least $1.4 billion in taxpayer-backed COVID-19 aid

Comments

  1. The PPP covers employees salaries. I know of one instance where a Catholic grade school applied to cover the wages of its teachers. Stop trying to make this sound sinister.

  2. At least it wasn’t wasted in the shithole ghetto. That money would have paid for a lot of Escalades at the Jazz Museum or Urban Shithole League.

  3. How can the U.S. Catholic Church be given tax payer money if they themselves pay no taxes.

For purposes of U.S. tax law, churches are considered to be public charities, also known as Section 501(c)(3) organizations. As such, they are generally exempt from federal, state, and local income and property taxes. "Exempt" means they don't have to pay these taxes

Hard to sell you point that God provides when the Catholic church pulls a stunt like this. And where is the idiot that approved such a bailout?

This money should be going to real businesses who pay taxes. Millions of struggling Americans have lost their jobs, lost their health insurance, can't get a Covid test, can't go to school, and can't pay their rent, and we're spending billions of dollars to support the multi-billion-dollar Catholic Church. The real kicker here is much of it going to ones who’ve filed bankruptcy to protect themselves from sexual abuse settlements.

  4. Don't act like it was only Catholic Churches that benefited.
Joel Osteen and his prosperity grifting show got a bunch as did a TON of well known wealthy Protestant churches.
Should they have? Probably not. But do not single out Catholic Churches.

  7. "Super Dave", try to think before you post - are you trying to say that the Catholic Church doesn't collect payroll taxes from their employees? You know, the way "tax-exempt non-profit" Organization does?

Or is this just another example of you "shooting from the lip"?

  8. 10:02 and you know they do?

You sure they are not 1099 contract type employees?

My Dad was a janitor at St. Ann Catholic School and they didn't withhold on him. I remember tax time was always a nightmare around the house making sure enough money on hand to pay taxes. So I'm not shooting from the lip as you like to point out as in this case you have no idea what you're talking about. Lots of places pay help that way, they don't have to do all the paperwork and accounting to deal with taxes, SS and Medicare or FICA withholding.

  9. Oh and 10:02 they don't pay into the states unemployment funds either.

  10. Charitable organizations like the Catholic Church may not pay any taxes but their employees do, income and FICA. Again, this is the Paycheck Protection Program with the money going towards wages of the employees who do pay taxes so that they would not lose their jobs during the government caused economic crisis. It is not a gift to the Church.

I'll share with you my brother Eric's favorite joke: {Bear in mind that he has two college degrees)

"If a subset of infinity can still be infinity, then exactly how big is God's Cock?"

What do you guys think? Does he have a big dick, a little dick or no dick at all?

If he's not a human, then he's an alien, right? Hence the book, "God & Other Aliens", & its sequel, "Who is This God Person, Anyway?"

I'd say, "Happy Sabbath!", but that was yesterday.

  12. @10:28, if they were 1099 Contract Employees then, under the Paycheck Protection Program, there would be no funds paid to their "Employer", because they didn't have one!

The very fact that the money went to the Churches proves that the same Churches withheld and filed.

Sorry your father had difficulties, but facts is facts.

  13. ^^^^^^^^^But a lot of churches do just that and how do we know who got the money and who didn't?

The Paycheck Protection Program provides small businesses with funds to pay up to 8 weeks of payroll costs including benefits. Funds can also be used to pay interest on mortgages, rent, and utilities.

    I don't call a church a small business.

  14. Nobody can work their way to heaven as the Catholic Church claims. Nothing you can do yourself can ever save you from God's judgement. Priests cant forgive your sins, because you didn't sin against priests, only God can forgive. Mary is a deceased Jewish woman and she cannot hear prayers, she has no powers. The Catholic Church is a false religion. The Catholic Church is obsessed with gold, jewels, diamonds, rare art work, rare manuscripts, owning land, owning buildings, running their own city with the Vatican guards who are armed with Beretta machine guns. The Catholic Church is a like a glass of cold water which contains 10% poison. Looks good, but kills you dead.

  15. Smart people will not support a church that molests their children. Smart people can see the Catholic faith is not bible based, its just manmade traditions. The Catholic church has on display 54 complete INDEX FINGERS it claims are from John the Baptist. The index finger John pointed at Christ when they met, and he said "belong the lamb of God". I am not smart, but I do know that no human had 54 index fingers. So does the church. But the poor saps that drop money into the box to view it think its real! Its like a carnival side show! They also have the milk from Mary's breast, and the blanket Jesus was place in after he was born. And nails from the cross. And pieces of the cross. Really? How long will this fraud be allowed to operate? How many kids were raped today by a Priest? Answer: at least 10

  16. You have to just blindly believe in the Catholic Church and not question it. Just go along with what the doctrine is. The Church is infalliable and cannot make mistakes, thats in the Treaty of Trent and is the foundation of the Holy Church. So just go along with whatever they say and you might be able to go into purgatory when you die. Then maybe into heaven if your relatives light enough candles and say prayers. At least your not in hell. But wait - if the church is infalliable then how can child rapes take place? Maybe you should ask your Rockhurst College SJ instructor that question. If he is sober enough to answer you.

Wow, the Catholic haters really show up for the stupids awards.

On the other hand, come pray with me to my four billion year old gawd rock.

I assure you same results as Joel Osteen's instructions.

  18. 10:29 No, they don't which makes forced layoffs all the more painful for their employees. The PPP was the only hope to continue to be able to pay their bills that many Church employees had.

  19. Lots of Catholic haters you say? Well after you find out the priest thats been listening to your confessions has stuck his sex organ inside your little boy and little girl, how could you NOT hate the Catholic church? You know lots of kids have caught herpes and genital warts from Priests. Is that loving and kind?

  20. A Catholic Priest would have loved to rape 3 year old Olivia Jansen. But her Dad, a devote Catholic appears to have killed her first. I have no respect for Catholics.
