TKC SUNDAY SPECIAL!!! KANSAS CITY STREETCAR REQUIRES MASKS AS RIDERSHIP CONTINUES TO DECLINE!!!

More than any other taxpayer funded development, the Kansas City streetcar has been the engine for the so-called "Downtown Renaissance" and so much speculative real estate deals nearby.

However, the recent pandemic and the ensuing American economic decline have rendered this controversial mode of transit nearly obsolete yet again as ridership falls to historic lows.

Even worse, a mask requirement might prevent suburban visitors and tourists from enjoying the carefree good life promised by new attractions inside the loop.

The notice . . .

As per @kcmo, effective June 29, face coverings 😷 will be required while riding the #kcstreetcar. If you do not have a face covering, we will provide one for you at our @UnionStationKC streetcar stop. Just ask one of our friendly @DowntownKC_CID safety ambassadors. #StayStrongKC

Accordingly and directly related to the pandemic . . .

THE STREETCAR SUFFERS ANOTHER 86% DECLINE IN RIDERSHIP AS CORONAVIRUS RENDERS THE TOY TRAIN USELESS!!!

Here's proof to back it up with documentation dutifully shared by the streetcar authority . . . Last year's numbers were exaggerated but still serve as a good reference point.

The shocking difference amid the pandemic and proof that this mode of transit simply isn't reliable as anything more than a over-hyped tourist attraction.

You decide . . .

Streetcar was always a shady deal. Too bad that they don't let the public vote on it. Just another KC ripoff.

Yet thousands of people ride it every day. Weird.

Keep dreaming weird boy.

Those riders are mostly just fake clicks and miscounts.

I've seen it empty for years. A few good crowds for concerts but that's it. The whole thing was just a scam for developers and the engineering company.

Better title for ya T: Corona train crashes!

If I installed a Ferris wheel in downtown KC, I’d get the same number of riders as the train. Numbers do t mean anything if the train has no more purpose than a Ferris wheel.

949 It's a novelty that has run its course.

If rioters and looters don't have to wear masks...neither do I.

With the real numbers of riders on THE streetcar, social distancing has never been a problem.
And the people who perpetrated this scam on KCMO residents have been wearing masks for years.
An amusement park ride at taxpayers' expense.

I've found that votes on things streetcarish don't matter... if the powers don't like the outcome, they meander around it ... it's called corruption.

Someone should develop a YouTube channel titled Street Car Confessions. Riders can be interviewed with a hidden camera to determine why they were riding the train and what they hope to accomplish riding between the City Market and Union Station.

You've said a lot of dumb, untrue bullshit on this blog over the years antonio, but this may be the biggest steaming pile you've ever dumped on us.

Be better, as the white guilt yard signs say.

Unlike most- we plan to support the streetcar!
In 2027 or maybe 2028- we plan to ride and and go get a small cup of coffee somewhere and split it.
Of course we will tip gratuitously and maybe leave a 16% tip... or maybe a dollar.

If the train goes belly up and is sold for scrap- then our plan B is to find out the one or two people who voted yes on it and perhaps ask them if they are in the right century. Clearly the public was hood winked or the voters short changed again.

Funny how KC is going bankrupt.

I could put a paddle steam boat on the river and charge nothing to ride and get more riders than the streetcar.

I could open up an asian massage parlor downtown an offer free massages and still get more business than the street car.

KC Mayor is an alcoholic, who is functional but still a drunk. Needs to take 30 days of rehab ( or more ). The public would understand and support it. Better now than later.

anyone remember that story Super Dave did on the street car? Tony should reprint that.

Anybody noticed new virus outbreaks only from beach trips or church, but none from the looter or riot crowds. Media is at it again folks.

Shut down the toy train! We need 400 million for the gay bike/walk KC folks to fuck up our already fucked up streets. We could vote on it, but funny how voting works in KC.

OF HOAXES AND HYPOCRISY

In KCMO, there have been 32 deaths from COVID-19 this year. (source: KCMO Health Dept)

In KCMO, there have been 91 deaths from homicide this year. (source: KCPD)

When a national emergency was declared in mid-March, were facemasks required in KCMO or anywhere else in the country?

If the coronavirus is really worse than a bad case of the seasonal flu, then why has it taken until the END OF JUNE for Quinton Lucas and Dr. Rex Archer to pull their heads out of their asses? Did you witness these 2 incredibly inept individuals wearing a facemask in March, April, or May? Why not?

If they actually believed the coronavirus to be dangerous to themselves and others, wouldn't their own sense of self-protection have led them to wear a facemask for the past several months? The fact that they did NOT, tells you everything about the games they are playing with the public. Wearing a mask, and mandating others to wear one, has become a Democrat political ploy to keep the public fearful and stressed, the economy weak, and unemployment high, in an attempt to get frustrated voters to blame the President.

To save lives in KCMO, does it make more sense to mandate the wearing of facemasks in public or the wearing of bullet-proof vests? 32 deaths versus 91 deaths, we did the math for Lucas and Archer, because their heads have been deprived of oxygen for so long!

masks could save lives.

So can condoms

Anonymous said...

9:30 According to the data the daily usage averages slightly less than a thousand riders.

Anonymous said...

^^^^That is so wrong and has been proven so.

^^^explain to me where these people are going? Besides parking your car and just riding it for amusement, where do these people go?

I live downtown. One block over from line. It goes nowhere I want to go. There is literally more people walking to the city market then riding.

Bullshit!

You are endangering others with this ignorant shit.

When you look at KCATA ridership, which has fallen 76%, that puts things into perspective and renders the writer's "point," such as it is, quite irrelevant.

Anonymous said...

masks are not political, they're common sense.

wear a maga mask if you want.

it's a minor inconvenience to save lives until there's a vaccine.

look at the trouble the young people not wearing masks are getting into right now in texas, arizona, and florida.

356 is right, if unintentionally.

masks and condoms are an inconvenience, but they stave off catastrophic consequences.

Are the people that run this city all graduates of its school district ?

The new amusement park could be built at the 75th st. and Prospect area.

the old name of the amusement likely wouldn't be ok today.

but going there on rare occasions as a kid was a special occasion.

If YOU want to wear a mask, then please do so. And please stay quarantined indoors FOREVER.

You're in the sheeple flock. You no longer are capable of using your brain to accurately assess a situation. Do you even look at the statistics?

Please go to the KCMO Health Dept. website and peruse their own data.
In KCMO, ONLY 133 hospitalizations, and 32 deaths.
Not to make light of those who died from "COVID-19 related" complications, but this is a tiny number of deaths for a city of nearly 500,000 residents.
You're MUCH MORE LIKELY to die from homicide in KCMO than to die from COVID-19, and that's an undisputable fact!
KCMO residents under 60 years of age, have almost no risk of dying from COVID-19. The elderly, especially those in care facilities, are the at-risk demographic. And guess what? These at-risk residents are not moving about the city, riding the ToyTrain, visiting bars/restaurants, etc.

EWE CAN'T BE SO STUPID! WAKE UP SHEEP!

At the end of the day, the Streetcar was never anything more than a project to create jobs for the Urban population. This is the underlying policy of what KCMO does.
