SHOCK!!! KANSAS CITY 'DEFUND THE POLICE' IN PROGRESS: CHIEF HIGHLIGHTS KCPD SOCIAL WORK WHILST CITY HALL PLANS UPCOMING $10 MILLION CUTS!!!

Observers of City Hall politics notice 12th & Oak bowing before worsening financial reality whilst paying respect to protester voices.

To wit . . .

LIKE IT OR NOT, EPIC POLICE CUTS COMING SOON TO KANSAS CITY!!!

Moreover . . .

IN THE MIDST OF THE WORST HOMICIDE SPIKE IN KANSAS CITY HISTORY, THE PANDEMIC AND SOCIAL JUSTICE PROTEST CONSPIRES TO CUT POLICE RESOURCES!!!

Let's not forget that the 2020 murder count now stands at 82 - A historically high number for KCMO at this point in the year and a nearly 37% spike over last year's pace.

Still, this budgeting discussion has locals playing cable news talk show pundit rather than looking at the issues impacting their own backyards.

Without precious CARES ACT cash held up by Jackson County Executive Frank White, City hall doesn't have much of a choice but to dramatically scale back services to the public given that developer subsidy is already locked in and the suits in this cowtown aren't taking less money.

And so, the politics of today's budget presentation are mostly bad theater but the economic reality offers a very real glimpse at the future in Kansas City. There will be fewer resources for cops, social work, welfare, schools and neighborhoods whilst most protesters remain blissfully unaware of corporate subsidy sustained and curiously absent from any conversation about budget priorities.

Amid this discussion, today the top cop informed protesters and council (nearly the same thing) that KCPD actually leads the nation in alternative strategies to cope with underlying societal problems that often spark crime.

Here's the basics of his comment:

"There have been many calls lately to fundamentally shift the way policing is done in America. Several of these demands are about responding to situations of people in crisis without enforcement. I couldn’t agree more, which is why we’ve pioneered programs like dedicated social workers and a Crisis Intervention Team Squad.

"As far as I know, we were the first police department in America to employ social workers. For two years now, a social service worker has been assigned to each of our six patrol division stations. Their job is to help in situations that come to the attention of law enforcement but cannot be resolved by police. They’ve helped a family whose home burned down. They’ve helped victims of domestic violence start new lives. They’ve assisted with drug treatment. And ultimately, they’ve gotten residents the resources they need to be successful and reduced the need for law enforcement involvement. In 2019, KCPD social workers assisted more than 1,820 people."

    2. ^^^^

      That sounds about right.

I guess we're going to break that homicide record after all this year. I hope this defunding move is remembered as part of what led up to that situation.

    3. I hope KC is ripped apart by violence after this lunacy goes into effect. I want businesses burned or closed, people afraid to leave their houses, murders, rapes, rampant drug dealing. I want looting and a complete breakdown of society. I want all the police to quit and the mayor afraid to go to work. Only in this way will the ignorant left realize what a horribly bad idea this is.

  3. They can survive without the ten million, they have the biggest budget out of all city departments. They can start by not crashing three cars a week.

Every dept. in the city has to make drastic cuts.

  8. And that idiot Katherine shields is wanting to lay-off 750 city employees. I think the mayor and clowncil should give their salary up for a year. This is a part time job, about four months a year max, clowncil make $72 grand and the boy blunder makes $144 grand.

  9. The protesters are mainly non tax paying housewives, non drug addicted blacks, fat girls, fags of all 6 sexes and wannabe belongers. None of these groips are considered crime risk. They have nothing anyone else wants. So why are we listening to their demands for anything ?

  10. Defund is the reality. It is what the people want and we should support it.

If the murder rate was already so high, it's obvious that whatever police were doing wasn't working in the first place.

  12. The cuts are because the city is bankrupt because of the brilliant idea to shut down because of a fake plague. The riots are just the cover.

    KC needs better management.

Cutting police in the middle of a murder surge does not make sense. Will never vote for anyone who approves this again.

  14. USA is rapidly becoming a shithole banana republic. Floyd was an ex-felon who held a gun to a pregnant women's stomach and demanded money and drugs. How about the black community address the whale in the room of their culture of violence, misogyny, and racism while retraining the police?

    ReplyDelete
  15. @Brookside Bob
    Actually, KCMO needs ANY management.
In a police department, just like any service organization, the great majority of the budget is personnel.
So cuts to force will take place.
And for the pitiful clowns at 12th and Oak, just take the $10 million and spread it around to Modest Miles and other east-side grifters, and Aim4Peace, ad Hoc, and all the other totally ineffectual and unaccountable anti-crime "nonprofits".
And don't forget the gang at 18th and Vine who are already asking for even more than the $100+ million already squandered there.
The cowardice of the KCMO "establishment" is astonishing.
Not really surprising, but still ASTONISHING.

You're actually making violence worse with this decision. Damn shame that the Mayor can't see this.

  23. BLM Kansas City President was Justice Horn, a gay Student Body President, at UMKC.

Mayor Quentin Lucas is gay and probably collaborated with Horn and the UMKC Professors and their students.

Look at the crowd in the picture around Lucas and Chief Smith; they appear to be professors with their class.

The State of Missouri needs to DEFUND UMKC $10 million or more to pay for the cost of the Plaza repairs, police overtime and cover the shortfall in the City's budget for the KCPD.

KCPD should receive increased funding for:

    1. Non-lethal, self-defense training.
    2. Body cameras for the police.
    3. More cameras at high crime street intersections to centrally monitor areas.
    4. More police patrolling on the streets for crime prevention instead of reaction.
    5. Enhanced communications with neighborhoods to weed out abusive cops and find the bad criminals.
    6. Hiring of mental health professionals to assist calming and apprehending mental case calls.
    7. Whistle-blowing procedures for internal reporting of bad cops.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Governor Parsons and the Legislature should adjust the state budget that will both decrease crime and enhance law enforcement:

Budget transfer $100 million from Higher Education to law enforcement in KC St Louis, Springfield, Jackson and St Louis Counties.

Reduce the fat and make "tenured" left-wing professors work so they don't have time to organize ANTIFA and BLM to protest, loot and burn our cities.

  25. The COVID-19 shut down was the cause for the spike in crime and anarchy.

The economy was great and unemployment was at a historical low.

Then with the Presidential election approaching, the left-wing media whipped everyone up in hysteria about corona virus and that if the country wasn't shut down; everyone would die.

It was a big hoax as people under 60 that get COVID-19 have flu-like symptoms and are fine; if in fact they do get sick.

Protect the elderly in nursing homes. No more economic shutdowns which creates total anarchy and crime; as folks have no means to earn a living.

  32. KCPD had social workers on staff. They were worthless, as you can tell. This defend the police movement wants to put more responsibilities in their hands. Good luck with that.

  38. The City Council is like a child who waits for his allowance to come in. A cut at this time to Police is the worst thing that can be done.
Now is the time to defund the moronic wasteful programs which the Council has created.
Freeze spending on 18th and Vine, Jazz museum, Linwood Grocery, Blue Room, etc.
BTW, have you noticed the Paseo street signs have still not been installed to replace MLK???

  39. Cut all funding of the Street Car!!!
The Stereet Car is a spreader of the Virus.
Has anyone driven on 39th Street west of Broadway recently. KCMO Council is a complete failure.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Relax folks the sky is not falling. 212 people can be eliminated pretty easily without reducing actual police officers working the streets answering calls. Stop buying into the threats made by the Chief. Retirements and early buyouts would cover 1/3 of the positions. Eliminating 6 of the 9 captains at all the stations cuts another 30. Eliminating take home cars for captains who are not subject to call out saves more money. The list goes on and street officers aren’t touched.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Cut the Police Budget.

    ReplyDelete
  42. As I see it, the problem isn't police and protestors and a ridiculous fight amongst city leaders about the issue the media told us we need to pay attention to. We're all spoon fed bullshit by mainstream media on the daily, and the majority of you spend your time fuming and arguing about what you've been shown. Have you ever paused to consider, that maybe, just MAYBE, the problem doesn't lie in the tiny fires we're focusing on here and there. Regardless of how big those individual fires appear, they are NOTHING compared to the inferno of the media/government/old money machine that runs not only KC, but the entire country. We as a nation have intentionally been pitted against each other across racial, socio-economic, religious, ethnic, educational, etc... lines for 4 centuries and rather than doing anything about it, we're arguing over bullshit the people who've been gaslighting us told us we need to argue over. Shameful.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Look for the PD, which is top-heavy with almost 1400, to cut only officer positions and maintain its same command numbers with only 1100.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Shameful? What's shameful is our city leaders who continually give money to developers and then cut city services to its citizens as if there's no other choice. How about they do away with the sweetheart deals and actually work for the people who live here and pay taxes into the city coffers? This crap is just beyond ridiculous.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Um. Yes, it's shameful, and if you had any level of reading comprehension at all, you'd realize you're agreeing with and complaining about the exact same thing.
