SHAME!!! KANSAS CITY SOCIAL MEDIA SUCKERS HASSLE 'THE BITE' OVER FAKE NEWS POLICE UNIFORM POLICY!!! TKC FACT CHECK: TACOS LOVE EVERYBODY!!!
So many drunk uncles and local "Karen" pundits have been busy over the past couple of days making up rumors about an incident at a City Market restaurant that was way more complicated than they imagined.
To be fair, since Cascone's closed in the City Market - This establishment is the only place worth visiting.
Here's the breakdown . . .
Social media keyboard warriors claimed that The Bite has a policy against police officers in uniform following #BlackLivesMatter unrest. That's FALSE.
Right-wing online activists claim that the unilateral actions of a waitress were supported by the owner. Again, FALSE, the guy wasn't even there when a negative interaction went down.
On the bright side, even critics admit the place has really great food.
Here's the best report on the topic that attempts to clarify so much social media misinformation:
KCTV5: Restaurant under fire for employee’s comment to KCPD officers
KMBC: Restaurant criticized after employee asks officers to leave uniforms at home
Fox4KC: River Market restaurant gets backlash after KC officer told not to wear uniform inside
"The KCPD said three on-duty officers went to the restaurant to get something to eat and then an employee told them they were not welcome back inside as long as they are in uniform. That employee also asked that they let other officers know. However, she did serve them food that day."
This is important:
The employee resigned after the incident.
A clarification from the owner:
"Carlos Mortera said he was not there when the employee said that to the officers and that the decision was made by the employee alone.
"He said he will allow police officers in uniform to come inside his restaurant. He said that despite what his employee told police, he does support police officers in uniform . . .
"However, he said although he never had plans to not allow police officers in his business himself, he is not upset with his employee for having done this and believes it was done out of passion. He said he not only stands for the Black Lives Matter movement, but inclusion altogether."
To wit . . .
The biggest problem here is that the owner expresses a complex sentiment which doesn't fit well with either side of the American culture war that only seeks to destroy any perceived opposition.
The City Market attempts to walk the line a bit more effectively with their presser . . .
"In light of the social justice issues our city and nation are confronting, emotions have been running high throughout our community, and unfortunately, an incident occurred that does not align with City Market’s customer service principles.
"Earlier this week, an employee of a City Market restaurant served uniformed police officers and expressed that they were welcome on return visits only wearing street clothes rather than uniforms. That employee has since taken responsibility for those remarks and has resigned from the restaurant. To be clear, the police officers were not refused service.
"City Market has always been a place of diversity and inclusion, and all our shops and restaurants welcome everyone without exception."
Sadly, this fact check comes too late for so many social media suckers who were quick to feign outrage over an interaction based almost completely on social media misunderstanding, rumors and gossip that didn't even provide any laughs.
Moreover . . .
THE BITE SEEMS TO WELCOME BOTH POLICE AND PROTESTERS BECAUSE EVERYBODY LOVES TACOS!!!
Brief TKC aside: It's a Mexican cultural tradition to occupy an untenable rhetorical position that alienates virtually everybody. In fact, merciless equivocation and contradiction is often a self-defense tactic that SOMETIMES helps to shield powerless people from the wrath of mobs. But I digress . . .
Another clarification, The Bite bills itself as a "sandwich shop" shop but the Latino-Asian-Vegan fusion is basically just fancy tacos offered up by some interesting characters with bad tattoos. Moreover, one of their former artsy employees HATES TKC and even pushed some kind of lame one-day shut down campaign among his two dozen mostly worthless weed smoker activist friends . . . Of course, they quickly lost interest. He has since moved out of town . . . And we wish him good luck with his graffiti. So this post isn't promo, just a bit of local interest in the Latino NEXTGEN who seem to be having a great deal of trouble focusing on biz above politics.
Postscript . . .
AND SO THE KANSAS CITY FIGHT BETWEEN POLICE VS. PROTESTERS HAS MOVED TO THE BITE'S ONLINE REVIEWS!!!
Sadly, coronavirus paranoia and election year rhetoric prevent so many activists and armchair pundits from enjoying fancy gourmet ethnic fare which, in the final analysis, is really the only benefit of Democracy and capitalism available to most plebs.
You decide . . .
