KCPD body cameras are a go, but local control of the police department is still up in the air
By Kathy Feist As a result of protests during June to end police brutality toward unarmed black men and women, Kansas City raised enough money to fund body cameras for police for the next five years and has raised the question of localizing the police department.
We need Local Control of the Police.

ReplyDeleteLocal control of the KCPD means that people like the revs and Gwen Grant can intimidate the KCMO electeds, choose the members of the police board, hire and fire who THEY want, control the police budget, and extend the pitiful idea that anything bad that happens to their "people" is always someone else's fault.
There's already a prosecutor in place in Jackson County who advocates for and currently practices exactly from that point of view.
The city would have a small percentage of a minority population in control of the agency responsible for the most basic of services:
public safety.
If you like how 18th and Vine has been "managed", you should be all for this.
Kansas City lost local control of the police due to the criminal activity of Kansas City’s corrupt political gangsters. Today political gangsters want control again so their gangster activities will not be prosecuted. This is another delusional idea coming from the Lucas Liquor Store, formally known as the KC City Hall.

ReplyDeleteThe cameras may have been bought, but it will be at least 2 years or more until they find the funding to store all of that data and hire the additional personnel that will be needed...... Don't forget the $10 million shortfall the City is taking away from the KCPD...........
