Kansas City Struggle To Save Embattled And Cash-Strapped 18th & Vine Jazz District

Continued DEMANDS for cash ignore MILLIONS in local subsidy already invested without any return or hope for self-sustainability . . . Meanwhile, the conversation continues without any semblance of a plan:

18th and Vine residents, police and KC leaders meet to talk safety solutions

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Five shootings in the span of a few hours in Kansas City's historic Jazz District this week are now prompting calls for change. At least four shootings happened near 18th & Vine Sunday night, and a fifth Monday morning. Two of the victims died.

  1. Discussions will go nowhere as long as the race baiter Henry Service takes part in them. There are reasonable people who reside and own businesses in or near the Jazz District. Service is not one of them. Get rid of him and get things done.

  2. You can't save that which isn't savable.

  3. The first step is to ged rid of Henry Service..... What a clown. He calls anyone who disagrees with him "racist.

  4. Instead of discussing how to make one particular part of KCMO safer, wouldn't it be more effective to identify the source and causes of all the violence in the city?
Given the fact that there have been 90 homicides in 2020 so far and only a couple have taken place at 18th and Vine, a much broader approach to this horrendous problem would seem a better use of time and resources.
Or don't these folks want to be honest enough to confront the real problem?
    Official KCMO sure doesn't.

"We’ll do it when you guys get your knee off our neck."
    Service,
    The racist.
All the problems with the 18th&Vine/Jazz district are the fault of white people. It never ends.

    1. We only build police stations where John Miles owns property the City has to buy in order to build them. That way Miles makes a killing. He couldn’t give two shits about his so-called church or his neighborhood.

  8. Their slogan for attraction could be " come here, die here . " since they seem to have a lot of murders there lately.

  9. Taxpayers should not waste another dollar in this area. The council should be recalled if they give in...shameful waste of money by previous councils...

  10. Waste of money and time trying to save a part of history than doesn't have the ability to support itself.

  11. We went there once when the Peachtree restaurant opened. The only white people there. It was a fucking half hour (I'm not exaggerating) before the black (natch) "waitress" got around to taking our order. It was so obvious it was because we were white. Now, the food was fantastic. But walking a block in the dark in that shit hole neighborhood was completely unrepeatable for us. Thank God we live in Johnson County Kansas.

  12. The entire area is a badly managed recreation center. The restaurants aren't run like restaurants. The friends and family outnumber the customers. The customers are secondary at best. I double the businesses pay rent on time, if at all. Either hold the businesses accountable or close the businesses.

  13. People would lose their minds if 12th and Oak built a big bonfire in the street and stood there throwing bricks of cash into it. This is no different. With the amount of money that has been thrown into this boondoggle over the years it should have attendance like Disneyland. It’s obvious no one gives a shit about a jazz museum. If they did, this place would be at least break even, self sustaining. Either close it down or let private donors keep it open.

  14. Wrong side of Troost, not worth saving. A clean and shiny toilet, but a toilet nonetheless.

  15. I was there with friends, saw two cars drive next to each other at 90mph. could have killed pedistrians. I think they were going to shoot at each other till the cops went after them. Jazz is dead. Nobody likes or rememebers it unless its the nursing home crowd.

  16. Being a historically global jazz hub that provided actual, world class entertainment isn't worth saving? Also, when I go to other cities, places as historically significant as this are easily and economically accessible by public transit, yet ideas to expand transit and development specifically to the area have repeatedly been denied. It seems a damned if you do, damned if you don't situation for City Hall. Does everyone HONESTLY believe it's inherently a lost cause? Why?
