Here's why Kansas City is taking down MLK street signs in midst of nationwide protests

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Voters approved changing the name back to The Paseo to Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard last November. Signs just started coming down again Saturday. One parks commissioner would like to see the JC Nichols Found at the Country Club Plaza renamed for Dr. King.

  1. The cleave and his band of merry crooks the fat fake revs don’t want it down there, they demand that it be amongst the kolored folks..... preferably by the highest bidder, er, uh I mean kolored church in da hood!

  2. Dragging their feet to now is inexcusable. They sure put the damn signs up in record time. Fuck Lucas!

  3. Renaming Nichols Pkwy or the Nichols fountain isn’t right. The business practices of restrictive real estate in JCN’s day were hardly exclusive to him. It was normal for that period of history. When we visited the Wornall House museum, the tour guide confirmed that the Wornall settlers had slaves. Does that mean Wornall Rd should be renamed? Of course not. These same families whose names are being vilified have done many good things for KC through the years. They deserve their namesake memorials. Rewriting history is no way to change the future.

  4. Really funny . . . will they take down Paseo signs again in a few weeks?

This Keystone Cops routine is getting pricey.

  5. Those signs are overdue to be replaced. This has nothing to do with the current issues with police brutality. The voters voted overwhelmingly to restore the name many months ago. The delay in putting these signs back is the issue - not that they have to go back.

  6. I knew that MLK was a philanderer, but I heard the other day it's known that he was a rapper as well. I was shocked.

  7. Sorry, raper. MLK was a rapist.

  8. Rename Agnes, or Indiana, or Benton. No one gives two shits about those streets, and they are far more murderous already. It's perfect.
