Kansas City Jazz District Desperately Needs More Police Despite Political Rhetoric

Credit to the newspaper for picking up this contradiction our blog community has discussed for weeks . . . Check the link tease with more info for subscribers:

For the 18th & Vine community, more police is a thorny solution to violent crime

To tackle violent crime, some in the historic 18th and Vine Jazz District are asking why there isn't more of a police presence, while others are reluctant to bring in additional police in light of recent national events focused on police brutality.

  1. Man I hope they can get the crime in control down there so we can see a big jazz resurgence here in town!

Black folks especially are really getting back into jazz music!

  2. Why would there be a need for a greater police presence in the Jazz district? There isn’t anything there worth protecting.

  3. All those Old White NRA Members with legal guns once again. LOL Perhaps it's time the Black community calls out the bad members in their group and accepts their real problems and why people may or may not hate them or treat them different. Why they don't advance in any positive category while other minorities are able to achieve. I'd toss out the gang/rap culture first and the silence of the street second. That's a start.

  4. ^^Or maybe it's just boring white CHUD's like you who sit & cry on blogs all day who are the problem in this country.

  5. Why would anyone want to go into a warzone if they didn't have to? Naive out-of-towners and that's about it.

  6. The police need to actually get out of the vehicle. If the officers are too lazy to get out of the vehicle they need to be fired. If the officers are too scared to get out of the vehicle they need to be fired. The police don't do their job...

  7. ^^^^
    Yes.
The reason that 18th and Vine has homicides is because the "police do not get out of their vehicles", not because thugs in the black community are killing each other in record numbers over nothing.
If you just remember that EVERYTHING is everyone else's fault other than the people actually involved, you'll never be surprised at the excuses and claims.
How many multiple murderers has "the community" cooperated with the police to get off the streets?
And the city council and smiley selfies Lucas' solution is to dump yet another $7 million into this black hole.
    Mindless and cowardly stupidity.

  11. Reparations: To think the 18th and Vine District is an investment district by the City is pure fantasy. Any investment will have a track record and some logical hope for a future payoff back to the City on the invested dollars.
The money the City spends in this area is a payoff or reparation to the screaming so called business owners and city state and federally funded committees who oversee this area. It is totally unfair to ask the local city taxpayer to pay for these kind of demands. Any reparation should only be a Federally based program.

  12. One 3rd District resident L.F. wondered in an interview why KC had so many officers on the Plaza during the riots but not so many at 18th and Vine???
Hey L.F. , I you can get the rioting moved to 18th and Vine then you would also get police support for the rioting and looting.
Did you see the video of the Plaza jewelry store which was being looted?

  13. 12:28 - I am entertainment industry Attorney. Thats my job. I follow the money. There is no money in Jazz. Its finished and the losers that follow it are broke and unemployed men sitting alone at home with their dogs.

  14. Jazz fans are not the type to worship idols and go to museums like rock or rap fans are. That museum wouldn't make a profit anywhere.

  15. Hi 2:59. The money is Jazz is on display at the Blue Room on 18th and Vine. The city council figured it had to have some Jazz in the 18th and Vine District. So they set up this bar. KCMO annual budget for this bar is $600,000.

  16. Jazz is unpopular. Its going away every day as "jazz greats" die. Most of the greats are drug addicts, gays, and social misfits, so its not cared about by anyone. Except the JOCO white guys that pretend they are Doc severenson or Maynerd Furguson. Of their heros are odd, gay, men. Maynerd hit "hi c" in the shower when his buddy biff joined him

  17. Too funny!! The Jazz District needs to learn how to fund themselves. Don't you think 150 million is enough? Most people do.

  18. I dont know a single person who listens to Jazz. And I am not a hermit. I have over 500 facebook friends that I personally know and see on a regular basis. Not 1 listens to jazz. Not one.

  19. The businesses at 18th / Vine are run as a park department recreation center, not a business. The people at the "businesses" are family and friends, not customers. The few customers do not find the experience worth the money. The restaurants in the immediate area are inconsistent both in service and in food quality.
