Reps. Cleaver & Davids Push to Save Thousands of KC-Area Jobs at Federal Agency Amid Potential Layoffs

United States Representatives Emanuel Cleaver, II (MO-05) and Sharice Davids (KS-03) continue the push to save Kansas City area jobs after news broke in May of potential layoffs for 1,000 contract workers at the National Benefits Center due to coronavirus-related revenue shortfalls, which would be among the largest mass layoffs in the Kansas City area. Should the Agency fail to receive critically-needed funding, over 1,000 additional federal employees in the region could be laid off as well. As the representatives fight for federal funding, they are calling on the U.S. Citizens and Immigration Services (USCIS) to put forward a plan demonstrating these jobs will remain should funding be secured.

“44 million Americans have filed jobless claims in the last 3 months, and the Greater Kansas City Area has not been spared of the financial pain growing throughout the country,” said Congressman Cleaver. “We cannot allow thousands Kansas Citians to unnecessarily lose good-paying jobs amongst this economic backdrop. As Congresswoman Davids and I continue working within Congress to find funding and keep these workers employed, it’s important that the USCIS put forward a plan that shows unequivocally their intention to maintain these jobs for the foreseeable future. With a satisfactory plan in place, I’m hopeful we can convince Congress to supply the funding these workers desperately need.”

“At a time when so many Kansans have lost their job security and are facing enormous financial strain, Congress must do everything we can to prevent what would be massive and devastating layoffs at a major employer in the Kansas City area. I’m committed to working with Congressman Cleaver, as well as congressional leaders and the committees of jurisdiction, to protect these vital jobs and the livelihoods of families across the region,” said Rep. Davids.

Cleaver and Davids have been in discussion with congressional leadership and the committees of jurisdiction since the news became public in mid-May as they advocate for emergency funding for USCIS, which oversees the National Benefits Center and the National Records Center, in order to protect jobs at the agency.

The National Benefits Center and National Records Center have offices in Lee’s Summit and Overland Park.

      Agree.

But KC is usually on the losing side of federal cuts. Maybe this is revenge for all of those USDA jobs that D.C. handed over despite the protests.

  3. They’re just lackeys doing what they’re told, they both are on sub committees and don’t have any real power to do anything. Get the paperwork started for the real committees then go sit in the corner until their masters tell them otherwise like to go fetch them coffee.

  4. PROPAGANDA ANYONE?? This is nothing but a lie. Cleaver has been in for how long now and has done nothing. Sharice Davids threw out a plan for masks. Does anyone think they are going to do something now right before election time? How funny!

When you liberals go to the polls remember how Cleaver did nothing about the riots and how he kept you prisoner in your home when he and Lucas were starting a race war. Remember Sharice Davids and her objective to destroy anyone who wasn't Indian and how her statement was a threat against your life.
Congrats to anyone who pulls out of KC. and as far a JOCO goes keep that idiot Sharice Davids and you will be following right behind KC. Use Seattle as an example they don't have any food and they have thugs living in the middle of the streets in their city. And to you morons NO Trump has no power on this learn about states rights this is the fault of your city officials.

  5. The very best thing that could happen to the KC metro would be that at least two private sector jobs were created that these two clowns could fill after they lose their elections in November.
    All talk and no results.
Embarrassing that the metro can't elect anyone to the House of Representatives that is taken seriously by the people who actually run the place.

  6. Democrats cost Kansas City thousands of jobs with their protests, looting and arson. Businesses will be forever closed and folks from outside Kansas City will take their disposable income to places other than Kansas City.

Cleaver didn't save KC 1,000 jobs. He and Lucas cost Kansas City thousands of jobs the last few weeks.

  9. Notice how the left-wing nut never has anything positive to say about the Democrat Party or any solutions or ideas for society.

Instead he just talks about his soiled diaper, calls people names all day, hopes they die etc. Pretty weak.

Democrats never want to listen to facts, data or statistics as reality does not fit their narrative.

  10. 8:37 - care to elaborate or you just gonna respond with "Nu-Uh!"

Any Trumptards bitching about the Democrats record on jobs care to address the fact that Trump's appointed Treasury Secretary has refused to provide documentation of where the $500,000,000,000 of taxpayer PPP money was doled out? I'm gonna guess our grifter of a POTUS has a few of his interests in there. Maybe? Is this what draining the swamp looks like. I mean, while we're here holding, apparently Democrats only, accountable, certainly you clowns have some thoughts on this bullshit, right?

  12. USCIS is supposed to be self funded. They sell services, such as naturalization, just like a private business would. Their sales are not so hot right now. Just like a private business, when sales are poor and costs remain high, something has to give. And that something is and should be employee related costs. If USCIS had 1000 employees when business was booming, it makes no sense that they should also have 1000 employees when business sucks.

Cleaver and Davids are again trying to buy votes with your money. It's all they know.

  14. Weren’t both Cleaver and Sharice complete failures in business? What could either of them know about saving jobs?

  15. No one gonna touch the question by 9:15 huh? Personally, I'd love to hear the Trumper's defense on that one. If it was Dem admin denying the info, I'm sure they'd have no thoughts on it.

  16. Where did Obama's $10 trillion doled out go? Anyone know ?

It was supposed to be for infrastructure. Kansas City pot-holed streets and breaking sewer and water lines don't seem to indicate any funds went to "infrastructure" in the cities.

So where did the $10 trillion go?
