The future of movie theaters was sketchy before Coronavirus but now the chances of a cinematic comeback are worse than the odds confronting the lead character of in any horrible French movie.
Forgive the hack movie buff joke and our continued love for the well-aged talents ofAbi Titmuss. The point here is that the movies are a tough biz and an even worse proposition as a charity.
And that brings us to today's Screenland fundraiser . . . It seemed pretty successful or at least widely supported by the local creative class who are fighting to garner interest in the media cycle dominated by fear of death and a broken American economy.
The local movie fan group hug wasn't "news" in the classic sense of the word but it certainly deserves mention. Rather than waste time and watch reruns for the "fundraiser" have a look at the Screenland website and some of the mentions they picked up today along with a more cyclical look at the movie biz . . .

Theaters Prepare to Reopen with TSA-Style Check-in, Temperature Screenings, and Plexiglass
Even more interestingly, drive-ins might make somewhat of a comeback given the Coronavirus reopen regulations.
We won't pretend to know the final act in this struggle so instead we offer a few of our favorite movie songs in tonight's playlist and invite readers to contemplate the future of the local Independent movie theater that now demands a new biz model or the last picture show.
As always, thanks for reading this week and have a safe and fun Saturday night.
Far too hopeful TKC, just a like a lot businesses they'll have to close if they can't make it work.
ReplyDeleteMeh.
DeleteIt's not really a competition with Netflix. Way more of a local community and a chance to actually talk with PEOPLE about movies not just consume.
^^^^ Hope you're right.
ReplyDeleteAt least for the people who work there.
Movie theaters suck. Bye bye movie theaters!
ReplyDeleteIn Sweden everything stayed open and they've had no Coronavirus deaths at all.
ReplyDeleteThat's a lie. A stupid one at that.

ReplyDelete^^^ fake news about a hoax pandemic
ReplyDeleteBesides I'm talking about a different Sweden. The other one. You know. The one this TKC genius was talking about.
Because you guys are all so smart, see.

ReplyDeleteMeanwhile in Sweden life goes on and they are no worse off than anywhere else in the short term, but will way ahead of everyone else in the longterm.
That Sweden.
Will they play the Green Berets starring John Wayne? That I would pay to see!
ReplyDeleteGuess they shouldn't have screened that Satan film last year.
ReplyDeleteActions have consequences. Bye-bye Screenland.
The theater isn't run like a movie theater nor is it run like a nonprofit. The theater is the hobby of a few friends. One fund raiser after another.
ReplyDelete@1:42 are you talking about that super-realistic movie "The Green Berets" that ends with Marion Morrison and David Janssen watching the Sun set over EAST-FACING Cam Rahn Bay?
ReplyDeleteLaugh a minute for anyone who had actually been there wearing a Canadian-made Rifleman's Green beanie.
Didn't Butch have a wife named Marty who got multiple plastic surgeries...tit s, butt, nose, face, tummy, etc,...and then dumped him? A real sweetheart!
ReplyDeleteButch's wife now is a super good looking slender gal who was a CEO of an accounting firm. She is smart enough to intimidate most guys. And the way she is built he will never have to worry about her getting fat. She is a keeper! Wish I could find a gal like her. So very hot!
ReplyDeleteThat Theatre is the private hobby of a few wealthy guys. Its private property. Its not a publically owned corp.
ReplyDeleteThat Blonde sitting with her legs spread at the top of this article looks like a ugly dog compared to Butch's present wife. She done got it going on! What a catch Butch!
ReplyDeleteI have hobbies too. Just like the guys that own the theatre. But i dont hold community fundraisers to take money so i can spend it on myself/my hobby.
ReplyDeleteButch just wants to save a bit of local special interest buildings. Every city does that sooner or later. He does have a wife with a playboy quality body. She should start her own Youtube channel and like model clothes on it and stuff.
