TKC BREAKING NEWS!!! KANSAS CITY RECORD BREAKING HOMICIDE PACE LIKELY TO WORSEN EXPERTS PREDICT!!!
This will be the year KCMO sets a new record for murders.
At least that's what insiders and readers of this blog seem to think.
Lesser sources report Kansas City has endured seven homicides in five days. Actually the total is now 8 following a victim succumbing to injuries following a recent double shooting.
In the comments and among the denizens of this blog community, most expect the total to worsen after the lockdown concludes.
Here's word sent our way form a local consultant that seems to back up most of the background commentary:
"The tone of the most recent Police Board meeting seems to suggest that authorities realize the (violent crime) situation will grow worse after the lockdown. People are coming back to an economy that's every bit as bad as The Great Depression. I know you (TKC) suggest more police and as an employment opportunity, that's not a bad idea. But from what we've seen so far this isn't a policing problem but simply a sign of more desperation among the criminal class -- They're slugging it out for money just like everyone else and the drug & gang business doesn't offer government assistance . . . Obviously, things are getting rougher out there and there's no REAL sign that it will get better any time soon."
KCPD counts 55 homicides so far in 2020 compared to 48 at this time last year. When police shootings are included in the total by activists and some journalists, the number spikes to 60.
Another worthwhile comment sent our way that puts things in perspective . . .
"55 murders in KCMO this year. 6 in the last 3 days. Silence about it from this mayor. Meanwhile 16 coronavirus deaths in KCMO. 0 in the last 3 days."
