TKC BREAKING AND EXCLUSIVE NEWS!!! JACKSON COUNTY STILL PLANS ANOTHER EPIC PROPERTY TAX INCREASE DESPITE CORONAVIRUS AND GOP PUSH BACK!!!

The collapse of the American economy and the highest unemployment levels since The Great Depression haven't changed the desperate need for cash at the Courthouse.

In fact, despite the influx of federal stimulus there's still a realization that money will be harder to come by in the next decade.

Accordingly . . .

INSIDERS CONFIRM ANOTHER EPIC PROPERTY TAX INCREASE REMAINS IN THE WORKS DESPITE DRASTIC CHANGES IN THE LOCAL ECONOMY OVER THE COURSE OF THE PANDEMIC!!!

Remember that in February, Jackson County administrator Troy Schulte told us that property taxes could skyrocket again. But then the world quickly changed and the pandemic changed American life forever.

Sadly, global upheaval still didn't shift local, political reality but only served to confirm their far reaching power that downtown officials can wield.

Remember that the County doesn't have to do anything, ask for permission or even conduct new assessments to raise taxes a whopping 15% across the board. Beyond that there's a greater threshold. Let's not forget that many residents continue to appeal their last assessments during the lockdown.

Meanwhile, at the State level there's a push to make the assessor an elected position and limit the power of the Executive when it comes to property taxes. Both of these efforts have already passed thru the house unreported by local MSM. Whilst there's progress on that front, it won't come in time to prevent another 2021 property tax spike.

Never mind that the pandemic has virtually stopped the real estate market in its tracks and very few houses are being sold for any kind of decent profit during the COVID-19 economic crisis.

This could be the last chance for Exec White to see an influx of revenue and he'll get little opposition from across the street at City Hall given that KCMO also DESPERATELY needs more cash.

Accordingly . . .

The guidance that insiders reveal is that homeowners remain the last cash cow for politicos and the only source of reliable revenue during harsh time wherein the public is hesitant to vote for more taxes and the economic crash has dried up nearly every other source of homegrown income for local governments.

  3. If they try another epic tax hike, the state will likely step in. It's going to be tough to justify it (legally) since property values are at best remaining stagnant right now.

  4. Should have started the recall while you had that chance.

  5. This is why you only let property owners vote. When you let renters vote, they fuck things up because they have no skin in the game.

  6. They haven't even resolved all of the last years fuck ups yet. I never got any kind of response to my property tax appeal.

  7. Just remember that these are the same people who parade around and talk about how awful income inequality is.
Meanwhile both Jackson County and KCMO do everything they can to subsidize "developers", friends, and campaign contributors at the high end, and load on property and sales taxes, water bills, and fees for regular middle class folks.
Hypocrisy combined with cowardice, selfishness, and greed.
And voters keep right on electing them.
    Sad.

Having a KCMO address is as Clubber Land predicted: Pain.

  13. Like any other civic employee, he breezes into the office sometime in the morning, does his city-manager paperwork-pushing things, and then glides right out. Direct deposit of his overinflated salary takes care of the rest.

Why would Fat Boy Troy do anything differently in his new Jackson County Gig?

You must have been unemployed and probably still are due to your choice and ignorance.
I seen my pay go up with Trump and I'm well below the "filthy rich."
I seen an extra $120 a month while earning $36K per year.
It was very appreciated and can't wait to give him another 4 years.

    VOTE Trump!!!

  20. Unbelievable, just unbelievable. We are facing a depression era economy and the democrats want higher taxes. This is a ploy by the communist democrats to own your property and ‘give it to the people’. Yet, it seems property owners couldn’t give a shit as they go about their daily lives. There is absolutely no reason to live in Jackson county despite ‘progress’.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Property taxes are a function of the county, not the city. The state determines policies for property taxes, not the counties. Jackson County is merely following the policies of the states. Unless the value of the properties decreases don't expect property taxes to decrease. The increase is due to years of low property taxes. Unclear how or why the county would continue year after year without increasing the property taxes in spite of the increases in the values of the properties.

    1. Low property taxes ? Are you crazy?

Property taxes, Federal Income taxes, State Income taxes, sales taxes, license fees, earnings tax, take 50% or more of our paychecks.

With Federal, State, County and City government there are too many layers of bureaucrats and pension plans for taxpayers to support.

Eliminate County government as it is a duplicate of city and state government.

County provides no services. County roads are horrible.
Frank White is a disaster. He can't pay his own home mortgage after earning millions with the Royals.

Taxpayers are just funding Jackson County Demicrat Party corruption.

  22. Whatever happened with that vaunted class action lawsuit that was supposed to rescue all the property owners from impoverishment? All flash and no bang?

And there were a few individual lawsuits challenging the assessment methods used by Beatty. Whatever became of those?

Too bad this town does not have a newspaper. Enterprising journalists would be all over these questions.

  25. Jim, @ 6:28, it's hard to believe no one has even agreed with you. Yes, only real property owner's should have a say on anything regarding taxes on those properties. Giving renters the right to vote is how school districts have run absolutely roughshod over tax bills throughout the Counties around here. School districts where administration size and costs have ballooned where population and student body sizes have remained stagnant. We need to call it something else though, like "stakeholders" only get to vote on property tax increases.

    ReplyDelete
  26. ^^^Keep in mind that only about 12% of the eligible voters come out every election. The minority actually speaks for the majority. In addition, tax increases on property owners are passed down to renters. They probably should have a say as well.

  30. 8:43 No shit. It is no longer a secret that the democrats are trying to push a communist agenda. Thanks to their liberal media enablers, they don't even need to hide it anymore, they are actually proud of it. They want to own our property for the 'good of the people' and 'progress'. They just sugar coat their insane criminal ideas in candy coated Euphemisms. And you know what we used to do to communists.
