REBELLION!!! KANSAS CITY MAYOR QUINTON LUCAS RESISTS MISSOURI GUV PARSON & EMPLOYERS WITH EARLY REOPEN ADVICE TO WORKERS: DON'T GO!!!

This is the last Friday of the current coronavirus lockdown for many Missouri and Kansas residents and it begins with a major dispute betwixt elected leaders.

The upshot . . .

KANSAS CITY MAYOR QUINTON LUCAS STARTED A FIRESTORM VIA SOCIAL MEDIA ADVISING WORKERS TO REFUSE ORDERS FROM THEIR BOSS & THE GUV!!!

The argument is over compulsory work attendance and before we get started we must remind readers that both Missouri & Kansas are hire and fire AT-WILL states. Basically, at-will hiring means that employers aren't required to show cause for termination. Moreover, let's be real and admit that low wage workers (i.e. most people) are never afforded any of the workplace rights imagined by politicos and pundits. But beyond the reality of working conditions, here's a look at the political angle that starts with a stern reminder from Missouri's Republican leader . . .

KSHB: Missouri Gov. Parson: ‘If boss calls, you’ve got to go back to work’

Deets:

Gov. Mike Parson made it clear Thursday during his daily press briefing that when the state economy reopens, employees will be expected to report to work — or risk losing their jobs.

“When we open the state up, if you’ve got to go back to work, if your boss calls and says you have to go back to work, you have to go back to work,” Parson said.

To wit . . .

Check the surprisingly forceful contradiction from Mayor Quinton Lucas that encourages many residents to skip work this coming Monday . . .

Mayor Quinton Lucas: "I say this with respect, but--even as a matter of law--you don't have to go. If you feel unsafe or like you might compromise a loved one's health, don't go. There may be repercussions, but your health and your family's health is more important.

"In Kansas City, we've added protections mandating that an employer at a newly opening business ("non-essential") cannot terminate you for looking out for you and your loved ones' health and safety."

Accordingly . . .

The coronavirus reopen debate won't be settled until workers return to their jobs and the public witnesses the pandemic mortality count that will hopefully, God willing, stay far lower than dire predictions that have overestimated the crisis so far. Still, make no mistake about it, this is the biggest gamble Kansas City and the nation have undertaken in decades: A choice that pits money vs. human life, which is essentially the fundamental conflict underlying every civilization throughout history.

You decide . . .

  1. Quinton taking on parson is just another avenue to get galloway elected. Don't be surprised to see Quinton rolling out the red carpet for the Missouri auditor. She's KC's only hope for avoiding bankruptcy in the next couple of years.

  27. In my lifetime, there was another deadly flu epidemic in the United States. The flu spread from Hong Kong to the United States, arriving December 1968 and peaking a year later. It ultimately killed 100,000 people in the U.S., mostly over the age of 65, and one million worldwide. Lifespan in the US 70 whereas it is 78 today. Population was 200 million as compared with 328 million today. If it would be possible to extrapolate the death data based on population and demographics, we might be looking at 250k deaths today from CV-19. So in terms of lethality, it was as deadly and scary as CV-19 if not more so, though we shall have to wait to see. I was 5 years old and have no memory of this at all. My mother vaguely remembers being careful and washing surfaces, and encouraging her mom and dad to be careful. Otherwise, it’s mostly forgotten today. Nothing closed. Schools stayed open. All businesses did too. You could go to the movies. You could go to bars and restaurants. Stock markets didn’t crash. Congress passed no legislation. The Federal Reserve did nothing. Not a single governor acted to enforce social distancing, curve flattening (even though hundreds of thousands of people were hospitalized), or banning of crowds. No mothers were arrested for taking their kids to other homes. No daycares were shut even though there were more infant deaths with this virus than the one we are experiencing now. There were no suicides, no unemployment, no drug overdoses. The media covered the pandemic but it never became a big issue. Why? Where have the adults gone?

Moron 1: we're doing all these onerous precautions but CV19 is no worse than the flue was when nobody bothered to do anything.

Moron 2: that proves we dont need to take all these precautions, we are very smart!

    ReplyDelete
  41. Common sense would suggest that Gov Pearson’s statement references the fact that when the order is lifted and your employer states it’s time to return to work, it would be a good idea to return if you don’t want to loose your job for the reason of job abandonment, which is in most employee handbooks by most companies. You still have the choice, but as always, there are consequences/benefits with any choice you make. SMH!

  42. Dear 11:43 - It took about 3 months to develop a flu vaccine back in the 1960's. Plus the flu always goes away (in large numbers) during summer months. Flu vaccines are easy to make-they actually placed 3 strains of flu in this year's vaccine, and they started working on it back in August. It was ready in 2 months. its easy to make a safe flu vaccine. Plus many people have immunity to the flu from past similar flu strain illnesses, and babies from their mom's immune system. When you got that flu in the 1960's, you probably were not going to catch anything dangerous "on top of it".

Covid 19 - as of December 2019 - nobody in the entire world had immunity to Covid19. It wont go away in summer (its spreading well in warm climates now). The vaccine will take 2 years to develop due to screw ups. Plus its been proven - recovering from Covid19 will NOT give you 100% immunity and you can GET IT AGAIN! Next winter people can and will catch the Covid19 AND the flu at the SAME TIME. This will include young kids under age 18. And other healthy, fit people - the FLU and Covid at the same time is a huge threat that the government is not talking about, as they dont want a run on Tamiflu (its active chemical comes from China). The Govt is trying to stop the Covid spread and let Covid19 dwindle to small numbers before the flu season starts, so it wont be circulating as much. The dual infection of "Covid19 and flu" is the real threat to the USA, about 1000x more dangerous than Covid 19 alone. Both will attack your lungs and kill you. Smokers will all die, vapors will die, heart transplants die, kidney transplants die, babies will die, it will be very bad. Stay in and let Covid19 numbers go down before flu season hits!

    ReplyDelete
  43. So the testing is very faulty.
You can not get it twice.
Renowned accredited scientists have verified this and it is much like any othe strain of flu.

    Consider this:

30,000 to 50,000 people die of the flu each year that has a vaccine. This one doesn’t.

Trump saved a lot by closing the borders early- despite many democrats yelling racism... same people who believed Kavanaghs accuser with no collaboration and Biden’s accuser has lots of collaboration and no dem woman believer her.

  44. ^^^Mostly right 2:32. They have not confirmed if you can get COVID 19 again. It's still questionable but South Korea believes that the people they were showing as 're-infected' were dead virus cells showing up.

Also, COVID is WAY more contagious than the flu. COVID can be spread through the air and evidence has shown it could remain airborne for hours.

It's early on but researchers believe COVID can be spread from a single person about 2-3 times more than the flu.

It's pretty easy to get these facts on the internet.

    ReplyDelete
  45. 2:49 - Trump did not close the borders. He closed the borders to Chinese. This is fact. Flights continued to come from China after his "border closing" to the tune of 40,000 people. Why is this so gotdamn hard for Trumpers to get through their thick skulls?

  49. Dear 2:32 you must be fun at parties and that is a lot to unpack there. My earlier point was simply that we have had these types of events in the past and have not gone to these extreme measures. At our current rate we are losing about $25 billion dollars a day as a nation, at that rate the money will run out sooner rather than later. So please explain to me how a consumer driven economy is supposed to stay at home and not work? Especially if you are right and antibodies from a previous CV-19 infection does not guarantee you won't get it again, waiting for a vaccine that is produced with antibodies isn't really going to help. Currently KCMO has had more murders in 2020 than deaths from CV-19. Does that stop you from leaving your house? We are not New York get some perspective.

  59. Dead virus cells don't make test show your "positive". Your kidneys clean those dead virus cell out in 1/2 hour. The governments job is to keep widespread civil peace - even at the cost of individual's health. Example : The Government ploy that said "n95 masks are not needed by anyone they wont help you prevent illness". Not true. All healthcare workers knew it was a lie and they begged for more n95 masks. The ploy allowed allocation of masks from stores to healthcare workers (not the general public). People who trusted the government and didnt wear a mask got sick and some died. Now we have a good supply of n95 masks at hospitals. Now the government said masks do work and in California you must wear them by law in public. N95 masks have been around since 1977 and every medical professional knows they prevent illness and even must take classes on their use and are tested on how they are fitted to the face. Now the government is not telling you that we will have 3 waves of coronavirus, its mutated twice, and no vaccines will every completely protect you. And when flu season comes, "people will die of the flu - not the virus". So real virus deaths will be hidden that way. its all a game to make you think the government has some control. They have no control over mother nature and we are screwed if the flu mutates badly this year and becomes a killer flu!

    ReplyDelete
  60. This illness has nothing to do with politics. China, who could care less about its citizens were welding people into their apartment buildings, letting them starve, physically handcuffing, detaining and impounding anyone on the street who had a fever - many were detained and died, never seeing their families again. If China was taking such extreme measures (much more than they do with the flu) then I would guess this is alot more dangerous then the flu. After all China has never done anything like that for the flu. They know what this virus is and they were terrified of it. Its not the flu
