One More Kansas City Community Center Might Stop The 2020 Killing Spree?!?

A sketchy premise put forth by activists might provoke reactionary rage BUT it also signals the desperate search for answers and a dearth of leadership from the community regarding an ongoing and persistent problem. Sadly, only the plan put forward this year is a renewed commitment to identity politics from BOTH Republicans and Democrats without a commitment to any real effort to prevent further loss of life i.e. don't count on keyboard warriors for a solution or anything but more ranting.

Locals at anti-violence rally say new community center would help

KANSAS CITY, MO (KCTV) -- Kansas City has seen a major uptick in violence over the last couple of weeks, including nine shootings in a matter of just two days this week. However, some locals believe an empty building could help fill a missing sense of community and slow the violence down.

  1. Maybe get a little midnight basketball program going?

You know, squash those beefs out on the hardwood instead of the mean streets.

  2. Funny how things in city life work, criminal reform and less police intervention in communities lend itself to people doing things without interference until it’s too late and then policing becomes necessary. Hmm?

Lol Community centers, police stations and buildings in general have been know to stop crime.

    1. Sorry a building won’t stop anything. People (tax payers) are tired of fronting more money to failed solutions. Until a community stands up for itself, nothing will change. See it repeated over and over again in history, especially in democratic ran cities!

    2. Did you mean 'profit?' Ouch.

Anyway, none of those things have been proven to do anything to reduce crime, sorry.

  4. And who is going to pay for it? Buildings need maintenance and electric and water and gas and staff...

How do we get people who own guns to stop shooting at each other?

    Wow, I don't know. That's a tough one.

What have other countries done to fix this problem?

For some bizarre reason, American Exceptionalism keeps us from looking to other countries for answers.

The dangerous myth of American Exceptionalism is quite a burden.

  8. Isn't really about individual choices that contribute to violence? No one makes you pull a trigger. So far, I can't say I've seen any "community" solve much of anything...Chicago anyone??? Personal responsibility is all you really need. Now, how to instill personal responsibility into youth or other criminal mindset...well, that's another problem that the criminal justice system hasn't found many answers too either.

  9. Instead of a new community center build a new police academy. Let four to seven year old kids see that in their neighborhood while growing older.

  10. Another community center won't do anything to stem the violence, another police academy is not needed (WTH), adding a thousand more police officers won't do what some think it might to squash criminal activity. You know what just might work? People acting like decent human beings, people looking out for their families and one another, people respecting life, people resolving conflict without resorting to violence, and finally people actually being held accountable for their actions and not consistently being given a pass for their behavior. Listen up prosecutors, judges, and parole boards. I know, I know, all this is waaaay too much to hope for.

  11. Why not build a dungeon-like prison?

  12. The main point I was trying to make was to get through to the 4 to 7 year old kids - yes, that young.

So a cop shop is out of reach because of budget. But if one is built then grocers could follow along with other business.

  13. There’s several community centers within ten blocks of this place, more b.s. to deflect the real problem, kolored people have no respect for nothing.

  14. No, I didn't mean profit. If it appears to mean profit then one could say possible that they don't care in regards to better policing. They being the heirarchy in the city.

I'll repeat - Important to get through to the youngsters while still young.

  15. A few things that would help them most:
    1. Having a traditional nuclear family where the parents are married and live in the same house as the kids.
    2. Don't have any kids until 27 years of age, at the earliest.
    3. Actually graduate high school.
    4. Stress education as the great equalizer that it is.
    5. Get a job. Keep gaining experience/education to get the job/income that you want. Notice you don't know any old, retired drug dealers. They are all dead or in prison. The old guy down the street in the nice house retired from Ford after 30 years. You aren't going to be a baller or rapper.
