Kansas City Toy Train Streetcar Moves Closer To Earning More Federal Money Help

Before too much celebration erupts amid ongoing debate over this mode of transit . . .

THE KANSAS CITY TOY TRAIN STREETCAR STILL DOESN'T HAVE FEDERAL FUNDING TO MOVE FORWARD!!!

The chances might be better this year considering how much cash the Feds are dishing out . . . But, given current economic upheaval, this is thing is anything but a done deal.

Here's the hype with just a bit of clarification . . .

Fox4: KC Streetcar extension to UMKC gets federal approval, opening projected for 2025

Deets and a highlight that deserves further scrutiny . . .

"The project is now approved to enter the New Starts Engineering phase of the FTA Capital Investment Grants (CIG) program, which is the final phase of this competitive federal program.

"While the approval does not yet secure federal funding, it’s a significant milestone in obtaining the $174 million in federal funding needed to begin construction . . ."

To be fair, here's what the top-ranking cheerleader has to say:

“This approval confirms that we are on the right path, and among the most deserving projects in the country,” said Tom Gerend, executive director of the KC Streetcar Authority. “The timing couldn’t be better as we continue our push towards finalizing a federal grant award by early 2021 and moving to begin construction of this transformative project by 2022.”

  5. “The extension of the streetcar represents the next step in our vision to make transportation free and available to all, and will provide good jobs to Kansas Citians as it is being built,” Mayor Quinton Lucas

Oh bullshit boutique transportation is not Public Transportation idiot.

  6. If UMKC, the Plaza, Westport, and everything in between is closed or out of business, what is the point?

  7. The price went up eh? Whats the total now $500 million?

  8. How many people who work along the Streetcar line actually live around the streetcar line? Any of the Brookside lawyers who work on the Plaza or Crown Center have free parking lots for their cars. Do the coffee house baristas and bank tellers rent $1500/month apartments downtown? How about the Federal Building and City Hall. Have you seen all the people lined up outside their buildings at 5 pm to take buses to their homes in the Northland and Independence? Are they going to sell their houses and move their kids to downtown Kansas City where they can rent studio apartments to take the streetcar to work?

  9. This just proves that these scammers like Tom Gerend are lying grifters just looking to line their own pockets with expensive jobs running the street car line. I still do not understand when the will of the people is respected. KCMO voters did vote to stop this bullshit a couple of years ago, right? Time to get a smart hungry lawyer to sue the streetcar authority and the city. I personally don't have a dog in this fight but I think it is wrong.

  10. Streetcar going to pull up to the ghetto and load up full of vagrants

  11. 2:10 - why are you such a stupid fucking Republican Rube? Republicans control the Senate, and nothing gets spent unless it gets through there as well. And Republicans controlled both houses until less than 2 years ago. So if you want to bitch about spending, look at Republicans and go be dumb as a fucking nail somewhere else.

Sometimes you dumb muther fuckers just talk to hear yourselves talk.

    2. And democrats continue to run cities into the ground by expanding government and taxing its citizens and businesses to death, just to pay for social justice programs, unfettered illegal immigration, and stupid ass things like the street car. Idiot.

  13. We are making progress aginst the Democrat party in this area. We even have a good chance at electing a Pro-Life conservative to the state and national Democrat Committee (John Mayfield of Independence) and without Trump we would not have this strength. TIMES ARE CHANGIN.

  14. @2:25pm hits the nail on the head.
'Ole smiley selfies Lucas has already been slurping down that great urban futurist KoolAid.
And, wait! There's more to come.
Richard Florida and the rest of the gang will be coming out with new books and making the lecture tour any time now, and, given all the breathless buy-in the electeds have made in past years, clueless KCMO will certainly be on the itinerary.
    Dig deep, KCMO taxpayers.
There are some BIG BIG new ideas right around the corner.
Wouldn't want to be left behind!
