Kansas City Sunday Night Contemplation On Last REAL Night Of Coronavirus Lockdown

The total Kansas City metro coronavirus lockdown is nothing more than a persistent myth after tonight.

With nearby Clay & Platte County ending their lockdown along with NKC . . . The precautionary effectiveness of local COVID-19 mitigation efforts are seriously weakened.

Moreover . . .

If we're locked down again it'll be because hundreds, if not thousands, of people have died in a very short period of time and the threshold required to do this level of damage to the local economy will likely be much higher and come with unimaginable human suffering.

Make no mistake that stepping out of the lockdown is nothing less than a leap of faith.

And that sketchy policy inspired this thought:

The politics of TKC are purposefully indecipherable or at least unpredictable even to the author. But on this last night of the lockdown we share cognitive dissonance that most are likely confronting. Ultimately, aside from the public long gun intimidation and bully bro swagger, we’re on the side of less people getting sick and dying – IF that sentiment happens to fall on the right and contradicts some of the scientific models we’ve seen. So be it. So far EVERYONE’S PREDICTIONS HAVE BEEN WRONG and that’s a good thing. There have yet to be a food riots on American soil, the models overestimated the coronavirus sickness & death toll and violence has kept on a typical pace seemingly unimpaired one way or another by the global crisis. Accordingly, the politics of the situation becomes less important than the hope that more people avoid suffering & death. Mileage may vary on this sentiment, because for some horrible people out there, rhetorical vindication is far more important than the ramifications for humanity.

And so, once again we share a quick stat update of where we stand in this COVID-19 fight as nearby counties open up at morning’s light . . .

KCMO Health Department: As of May, 3rd KCMO has recorded 573 positive COVID-19 cases and 15 deaths

KMBC: The Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services reported 232 new confirmed coronavirus cases Saturday, taking the state total to 8,386. In addition, one new death was attributed to COVID-19 in the state, taking the death total to 352 people.

KCTV5: The Kansas Department of Health and Environment reports new cases of the coronavirus on Sunday. The department said the state now has 5,030 confirmed cases with 134 deaths.

Moreover, here's a look at the bigger picture as we wish readers good night and good luck . . .

COVID-19 Blame Game

Trump defends the US's bungled coronavirus response by claiming Fauci told him 'it's not gonna be a big deal'

President Donald Trump said at a Fox News town hall on Sunday night that "everybody," including leading infectious disease expert Dr. Anthony Fauci, previously downplayed the severity of the virus. In response to a question about why he did not act sooner to prepare for a COVID-19 outbreak in the US, Trump said Fauci "was saying it's gonna pass, not gonna be a big deal."

Global Cure Competition

Fears rise that Trump will incite a global vaccine brawl

"You would think that, based on the past, that the U.S. would be a galvanizing, lead element in pushing for transparency and early planning" on the vaccine front, said Stephen Morrison, who runs a global health program at the Center for Strategic and International Studies. "I don't think that's true in this administration."

Sunday Night Prayer

Rev. Billy Cerveny: A sermon of hope as coronavirus pandemic continues and churches remain empty

Sexual addiction was destroying my friend's life and if he didn't get help he was going to end up in handcuffs. This was clear to both of us as he sat across the lunch table telling me about the secret world he had built to nurture and hide his addiction.

As always, thanks for reading this week. Hopefully, we'll have more for the morning update . . . STAY TUNED!!!

  1. the one guy who hasn't been wrong was the comment dude who said that murders will outpace coronavirus deaths. That's a macabre way to look at things and this month he's wrong. sad to say it but hopefully he'll ultimately be proven right.

  21. For those that question the mayors decision to lock down Kansas City. Here is a little math. Missouri population 6.137 million. Kansas City Population - 491,000. KCMO makes up about 8% of the states population. Missouri death toll so far - 352 people. KCMO deaths - 15 people. Just about 4%.

Yet Kansas City, as a larger, denser, metro area would be expected to have a higher infection rate and death toll than mostly small town and rural Missouri. Looks to me like early action by the mayor has likely saved lives, and reduced illness.

You can all decide how much inconvenience those lives are worth.
