Kansas City Memorial Weekend Massacre: Deadly Gunfire Threatens Local Streets Amid Coronavirus Reopen Warm up

Roundup resources of another violent holiday weekend and the unofficial start of Summer . . Here's the damage so far:

KCTV5: Police investigating Sunday morning homicide near Independence Avenue and Hardesty

Fox4: Man shot and killed at Old Northeast gas station

Northeast News: The initial investigation shows two vehicles pulled into a convenience store parking lot. There was some type of discussion between the occupants of the vehicles and then shots were fired.

KMBC: One adult male victim was located with apparent gunshot wounds. He was rushed to an area hospital where he died a short time later.

KCTV5: Officers were called to the 2600 block of Delevan Avenue (KCK) just before 1 a.m. for a shooting call. When they arrived on the scene, they located a male approximately 17-20 years old deceased, with an apparent gunshot wound.

KSHB: Triple shooting in KCK

This is the 67th or 68th KCMO homicide so far this year compared to 52 at this time last year. A woman died of her injuries from gunfire earlier this week and it's unclear if that will count in the Monday stat update.

A word from Mayor Lucas on the problem:

"Had a good meeting with Kansas City Missouri Police Department Chief Rick Smith. He and I are committed to doing all we can to reduce the shootings in our city. Our numbers have led all of us to reach out to other departments, national experts, and community leaders to work toward change. More work ahead."

Meanwhile, this deadly shooting roundup also acknowledges wide spread reports of local gunfire via social media, NEXTDOOR and RING apps

If you have any information, you're asked to the call the TIPS hotline at (816) 474-TIPS.

  7. Meanwhile, in the hood rat major league, Baltimore has 113 and Chicago has 206 murders. Our hood rats are inept and lazy.

    1. Got to do the per capita math. Can you do that? Chicago has one murder for about every 13,100 people. Baltimore has one per every 5,487. With 68 murders, KC has one murder for every 6,911 people. So we aren’t much worse off then Baltimore and way better than Chicago. Learn to do stats and math before spouting.

  13. KC is the tale of two cities. On the outside it’s vibrant and growing but on the inside it’s being eaten from within by social economic cancers I.e. lack of jobs, poor housing, poor mental health services, inadequate health care and failed neighborhood infrastructure. This disease if left
untreated will collapse the city into a heap of lawlessness.

    So what needs to change?

    1. Economic development has to take priority over subsidizing luxuaty condo owners with tax abatements.

    2. Jackson County should split into two counties one being Jackson and the other Truman.

    3. The City Of Kansas City should reduce its land area and de-annex some areas to create other municipalities to adequately handle its infrastructure needs. We can’t maintain what we have now.

4: The Chief or Police needs to go and be replaced with a true outsider who is a change agent. Someone from out of town. The police department is not being run efficiently. It is not diverse enough to building community trust and relationships. It is not accountable to the citizens of the city and is more interested in generating revenue for the city than solving crimes. The police refuse to present cases to the Prosecutor and rarely go after bad guys. How soon we forget the detectives not investigating child victim cases just a few years back.

    5. The Prosecutor has to go and the office has to get tough on criminals. The police should be made to present all cases to the prosecutor and all these cases should go before a grand jury for charges. The should fight judges to keep people in jail and sue the State if necessary to keep
Prisoners locked up the majority of their time.

    6. In addition we need more term limits and stop recycling the same politicians to various offices and committees. It makes no sense to have a Kathlyn Shields bouncing back and forth to various offices or have ex KCPD Chief Corwin, a person who misused police resources to watch his girlfriend and house while on vacation, to chair an anti-violence committee.

  14. Better idea for Star front page: two columns, one of corona victims and one of murder victims, along side each other.

That would sell newspapers, which they forgot how to do.

  17. >they shut down for the covid-19, but nothing can be done about gun violence.

They shut down for the Wuhan SARS virus and sent all the responsible people home leaving the city to the barbarians. It is Mad Max rising in KCMO and it is because of the idiotic, hysterical lock down overreaction, not in spite of it.

Let civilization back into the city.
