Kansas City Mayor Quinton Lucas Finds Political Refuge Among Hipsters

It was a tough week for "Mayor Q" who was rebuked by both the Jackson County Executive AND some denizens of the small biz community. Thankfully, hipster media disguised as "alternative" a place where personality rules substantive questions about public policy.

Mayor Quinton Lucas joins us on the Streetwise podcast

Today on the Streetwise podcast we're joined by Mayor Quinton Lucas. If you haven't subscribed to the show yet, you should. It's quite good. We should know. This week we've got some cool local music, and a phone interview that might make you tear up, but our feature is talking with the mayor, as we so enjoy doing.

  1. When you run out of opportunities for selfies, TV appearances, press conferences, ponderous self-important announcements, and all the rest of the PR fluff, head for a podcast.
ANYTHING except actually trying to tackle the serious issues like homicides, water rates, crumbling streets, and a cratering city budget.
It's really going to be a very long four years for residents of KCMO.

  4. Write Trump and tell him no money for KC.
Lucas will blow it on streetcars, salaries, and enforcement of keeping businesses closed. And hiring contact tracers.

    Lucas... the Forever 10-10-10 Mayor!

  5. With the support of the hipsters he now has the support of the unemployed and unregistered to vote; what could go wrong...

  6. If the boy mayor had even a tiny sense of responsibility for his city he would order a temporary halt to the airport project while its financial assumptions would be reevaluated. Once the city confirms the numbers and realizes that there is no way it will ever be fiscally viable they can mothball Sly's Folly and not let it continue and force the city into bankruptcy and begging for a federal bailout. Of course that would assume greater maturity than we have seen from the drunken selfie master so far. How about it, Q? Do you think you might grow up someday soon and do the right thing by your city for once?

  7. Move on people. The airport serves multiple functions, both local, state and federal. The feds have dropped $50 million on the airport to date with every expectations of more money in the future. The airports server the same function as the inter state highways (open a history book now and then). Regardless, the airport is well funded with reserves sufficient to weather the storm. The new terminal is funded with or without passengers. Endless other airports are using the decline in passengers to address capital improvement projects. Ceasing the project now would be bad management.
