As Costs Pile Up, Kansas City Mayor Quinton Lucas Asks Jackson County For His City's Share Of Federal COVID-19 Aid

Kansas City Mayor Quinton Lucas appealed to the Jackson County Legislature Monday for federal funding to combat COVID-19. Jackson County received nearly $123 million under the first round of federal CARES Act funding, but Kansas City didn't receive a dime. Only cities with populations of 500,000 or more were qualified to receive direct federal support through the act.

  1. I have been to the Jackson County Courthouse. Everybody is funneled through two narrow security gates. And people spread their spittle and germs on the gates. And then they crowd on ONE OF TWO ELEVATORS. The courthouse will be the conduit to spread the Vivid over the Tri County area. THE JUDGES WHO ALLOW THIS TO CONTINE ARE COMPLICIT

Funny how an urban city Democrat Mayor doesn't think much about conservative fiscal policies until he lands on the Courthouse steps!!!

(Quinton Lucas pleading with County Executive Frank White, whose house was on the verge of being sold on the courthouse steps for back taxes, before being rescued by the Independence good ole boys club of Democrats.)

  6. The budget presentations to the mayor and city council were haphazard at best. Endless comparisons to the situation in 2008; but in reality the situation isn't the same. The city council isn't drinking the KookAid but the city council is waiting for the mayor and the city manager to do their job. The form of government is a strong city manager form of government.
The Quinton Lucas fan club can tell him "good job" for only so long. At this point in time paralysis set in. With acting city leadership including the city manager and city department heads such as finance and public works KC MO does not function.

  8. Lucas's "popularity" is based on nothing more than being smiley and endless appearances and local TV.
The homicide rate hasn't even been addressed.
The crumbling infrastructure of the city continues to be ignored.
And enormous budget shortfall issues are about to become public.
Ponderous self-important speeches about the coronavirus as though he was speaking for the entire metro got old about a week ago.
Watch the enthusiasm wilt hen he actually has to make some decisions about CITY GOVERNMENT!
    Famous for being well-known.

  9. So long as his mother continues to tell him he is doing a good job, he is doing a good job...

  10. There are processes that have to be followed to get Federal money. Lucas knows what they are. He chose to ignore them. He has professional advisors on how to handle such emergencies. He chose to ignore them as well. This is all on him.
