KANSAS CITY #BLACKLIVEMATTER PROTESTERS VIOLATE CURFEW & THROW OBJECTS AT KCPD!!! POLICE UNLEASH PEPPER SPRAY, TEAR GAS AND RUBBER BULLETS AMID SUNDAY NIGHT RIOT!!!
Police reportedly told protesters that they could stay at Mill Creek Park around the JC Nichols Fountain after the curfew if they remained peaceful.
However, shortly after 8PM that tense truce broke after only a couple of minutes.
To wit . . .
ONCE AGAIN VIOLENCE ERUPTS ON THE KANSAS CITY COUNTRY CLUB PLAZA AS PROTESTS SPARKED BY POLICE KILLING GEORGE FLOYD TURN INTO A RIOT!!!
8:34 KCPD made the announcement: "Due to the items being thrown at officers, the protest has been declared an unlawful assembly. Everyone must leave."
And then the faceoff started . . .
KCPD: "We have been forced to deploy CS gas at this location to disperse the unruly crowd."
Pitch: "A protester has a "large laceration" from rubber bullets fired, according to KCPD scanners. The scene is currently still, but a large crowd is descending back on Mill Creek Park"
The KSHB live feed is pretty good with a bit of a slant toward protesters & progressives.
THE KMBC live feed is also worthwhile and seems to be a bit more objective catering toward police and their supporters.
KCPD have made multiple arrests as two different face police. One marching and another in a standoff with police.
UPDATE 8:38 PM - Rioters moving up and down Main St. are now throwing rocks at journalists, a dumpster was set on fire behind Cafe Trio. Multiple storefront windows have been broken.
UPDATE 8:55 PM - KCPD NOW IN A STANDOFF WITH ABOUT 250 PROTESTERS ON MAIN STREET NEAR MILL CREEK PARK.
UPDATE 9:22 PM - Protesters are moving back into the park, some setting off fireworks as KCPD seems to be taking a wait and see approach.
UPDATE 9:55 PM - KSHB TV SUV set on fire near 47th & Main... TV truck damaged and suffered theft.
UPDATE 10:20 pm - Police report about 15 arrests so far . . .
UPDATE: Mayor Lucas talks to MSM . . .
"The purpose of the moment is to try to address issues of community and police relations . . . We're not going to let foolishness exist all night. We're not going to let people injure others, injure police officers or injure innocent bystanders. There's not reason for that. There's no reason for anybody to get hurt in this protest. Frankly, we have enough violence in this city already . . .We're trying to end violence. No matter who is doing it."
UPDATE 10:55 - Life threatening shooting near 46th Street.
UPDATE 11:01 - Rioters slowly dispersing, different groups have split apart, police guess 10-20 arrests, now more police than demonstrators on the Plaza right now . . .
