Opinion, Jokes and Stories from KC
Streetcar should not be taking federal funds away from people who really need it.
KC Momentum for tourism is more important than PPE!
^^^ That is true today but it was also true 5 years ago. Chasing the streetcar put KC behind in a bunch of other infrastructure repair projects. Now we're wasting time and money on a system that does nothing but take money out of the hands of taxpayers in order to perpetuate itself.
Streetcar has a dedicated funding source - TID property and sales taxes close to the line. The bus system uses general funds.The streetcar has paid for itself many times over with the development and increase in property values it has caused along the line (much of which is not tax abated).
^^^And none of which can be attributed to the streetcar. There is a streetcar, then a new business opens where another one closed; therefore, the streetcar must be the cause of the business opening. Post hoc ergo propter hoc much?
Don't get it, do you, 12:17. Well, as they say, "tu stultus es," right?
@12:17Metate por tu cullo?
$10 million here, $20 million there; what is the difference with a budget of $1.7 billion? Quinton Lucas and company continue to work with revenue numbers not revised to address the revenue shortfalls associated with both the pandemic and the recession / depression. The buses aren't collecting the $10 million in fares. The sales tax numbers will be down dramatically. The earnings tax will be down; down dramatically over time. Neither the feds nor the state have moved forward with financial assistance to the municipal governments. The local counties are correct in the reluctance to hand over monies to KCMO. The stated goal from KCMO is to use the funds to address past financial misdeeds. The pockets of the police and the fire aren't the intended use of the stimulus monies.
When does KCMO post revenue figures? Sales tax in particular? The KCMO City Council keeps cancelling the budget meetings. What is KCMO hiding?
^^I don't know Maude, did you ask them?
^^and yet here you are. Every day. All day. In lieu of a meaningful existence. Weird.
Irony is lost on you, 2:17.
12:17 doesn't get it because there is nothing to get. Of course if you could explain the logic behind the claim that the streetcar is responsible for downtown development (within how many blocks?), then you'd help the world get it that you're not just lying.
