  2. If there is gasoline in the bilge area get the hell off. Dont jump down in there and try to fix it. Get it towed to the dock.

  3. This happens all the time. A cigarette boat pulls up to the gas station. They decide to fill up with hundreds of gallons of fuel which takes a while. So they all go inside to get snacks and beer for the boat ride. The young kid filling the tank leans on the gas filler handle which snaps the tube running from the outside of the boat down to the gas tank. So he pumps hundreds of gallons of gas in to the bottom of the boat - not into the tank. The people in the store pay, come out, race away before looking at the gas gauge which shows a still empty tank. The air from the speeding boat kicks up the fumes into the engine compartment and the who thing blows. Or it runs out of gas fast, stalls, and everyone sticks their heads into the engine compartment to find the loose wire and the air current of the open hood allow gas vapors to blow it up! Happens all the time in California.

  5. The hull of a boat is simply a way to make a hole in the water. Then you fill that hole with gas tanks, people and a hot engine. Bad combo. Ironic that fires happen on the water, as water is the very substance that prevents fires.

  9. ....on all cabin cruisers or inboards......always run your blowers for 5-15min.
before start up........boat lasts longer that way.

  10. The news said they just refueled and started the engines. So 9:53 pm is right. The gas leaked into the hull due to refueling error. This happens so often in Cali that they dont even really report it anymore. its been a weekly "given" for 70 years now
