COURTHOUSE INSIDER: JACKSON COUNTY EXECUTIVE FRANK WHITE TRIGGERS UPCOMING BLOWOUT BATTLE WITH LEGISLATURE OVER CARES ACT FUNDING!!!

The CARES Act volunteer advisory group created by Jackson County Exec Frank White might be one of the most devastating political miscalculations in courthouse history.

Accordingly . . .

THIS CORONAVIRUS SLAP IN THE FACE TO THE LEGISLATURE STARTS EXECUTIVE FRANK WHITE DOWN THE PATH TOWARD ANOTHER COLLISION COURSE WITH COLLEAGUES AND GRIDLOCK FOR DESPERATELY NEEDED CASH!!!

Remember, this is a battle over how to spend $123-MILLION on cities facing historic shortfalls and politicos desperate to bring relief to constituents and businesses.

Here's the insider word . . .

"The Exec couldn't have created a bigger disaster if he tried to do it on purpose. It's going to be a clusterf*ck. The legislature wants to work with him on this and actually approached Frank White's office to add a couple of their people to the group. They were immediately shut down. What's worse, look at Eastern Jack left out on the cold. There's absolutely no representation for this growing part of the county. Instead, he's crafted this KCMO-centric committee and created a situation where the Legislature is going to have to amend, block and pick apart a great deal of the upcoming spending requests."

And then, there's the problematic reemergence of former Mayor Sly James.

Here's insider word on how the return of this power player might be one of the worst political consequences of coronavirus.

"Nobody wanted Sly James to make a comeback. He lost his Pre-K push overwhelmingly and his candidate for mayor was beaten by a landslide. The voters have resoundingly rejected Sly James and now Frank White put him in a position where he once again has influence over City Hall. Exec Frank White and his team have been played horribly and every city, business and resident counting on federal stimulus relief is going to suffer for this political fight that has already started."

  1. Frank White is just following the same pattern. He doesn't understand how local government works. His powers are limited and he needs cooperation. The people advising him don't understand this.

    2. Think about it from the other angle. Frank throws in Sly and he has somebody else to take the blame while he can play the good guy and stay above the fray. It's a tough move but not a dumb one. Let Sly go back into the much and argue with a legislative body whilst Frank looks like a king. Like a royal.

That being said, if he raises property taxes again, there might be a recall movement.

  15. The sad fact is that whoever finally makes decisions about all this free money from the feds, the great majority of it will be wasted on insiders, consultants, grifters, and peripheral "projects", just like the regular tax money from KCMO and Jackson County voters has been for decades.
    Zero serious priorities.
    Zero oversight.
    Zero accountability.
All the usual suspect hogs are already pushing and shoving their way to the trough.
    See anyone you recognize?

  18. I bet if Marriott came to town today asking for cash to build a "much needed" hotel on top of Barney Allis Plaza, S'lie and Frank would have zero hesitation to tap into that federal cash to "help out" Marriott get their hotel built. Because it's only fair to raise taxes on the low and middle classes to get basic services while lowering the financial burdens of corporations to do business in this town.

Although Mayor Q has only been in office for a short while and most of the financial issues this city faces happened before he got into office, he's going to inherit the brunt of decades of corruption in this town that has put this city in financial straights. The question is, will he continue the cycle or is he going to do something to change the narrative? I hope for the former but I think we all should expect that latter. Because...
