CORONAVIRUS RUINS NEW KCI!!!

The new Kansas City airport terminal is expected to open in early 2023 and it's unclear if we'll have a pandemic vaccine at that point. What we know for sure that is that "New KCI" is taking shape amid the single greatest economic downturn the commercial aviation industry has ever confronted.

To wit . . .

NEW KCI CONSTRUCTION DURING THE PANDEMIC WILL LEAVE KANSAS CITY STUCK WITH A SECOND-RATE FACILITY!!!

Whilst local news wants to remain upbeat about the impact and continue reblogging presser hype about the schedule despite ongoing delays . . . We've collected just a few news links that offer a perspective on the beleaguered aviation industry and the circumstances under which the new airport will arise . . .

Checkit:

Axios warns of BLOOD TESTS TO FLY among other changes: Air travel will never be the same after coronavirus

Fox News On The Main New KCI Backer: Southwest Airlines loses $94 million as coronavirus snarls flights

Bloomberg Notes COVID-19 BAILOUT Problems: An $85 Billion Airline Rescue May Only Prolong the Pain

And so, mandating masks for passengers isn't such a big deal given that insiders and industry watchers understand that we're really talking about a government takeover of the airlines.

The circumstances of building New KCI are unquestionably "complicated" as the industry now confronts fundamental changes and a permanent disruption in the business of air travel that wasn't foreseen at the outset of construction.

Developing . . .

should have just stuck with old KCI.

Now having a new place based on tourism, and shopping doesn't really make much sense.

It never made any sense.

Who goes to airport to shop or experience a great restaurant?

Just remember the promise that all funding would come from airport usage fees when the first millions are taken from the General Fund to cover the shortfalls. Then look around and see the same thing happening for the P&L, Sprint Center, 18th & Vine, and Lowes Hotel, and realize it's just the KC way.

Remember all of us who said this was a bad idea? See we weren't so stupid after all.

CANCEL KCI! It's the wor$$$t boondoggle of all. Turn terminal B into a shopping mall for everyone who just loves airport shopping. C will be more than enough for the remaining air traffic.

Pff...waiting for a vaccine...what a brainwashed fool.

So government owning corporations... Is that better than or worse than corporations owning government?

Just because Tony claims it's "ruined" without anything substantiated - just a bunch of random bullshit - doesn't mean it's a bad idea. Try looking past Tony's bias towards ANYTHING resembling progress and think for yourself instead of constantly licking his asshole.

For once.

And you're still stupid after all, Stupor Duck.

Oh but Dave said many a time it was not a good deal and if you were attuned with whats happening Dave thinks outside the box and not always in line with Tony. But you losers never have thoughts such as that being full of hate is how you roll though life.I saw this yesterday and it's very fitting for you 9:20, if you want to see stupid just go look in a mirror.

Coronavirus didn't ruin KCI, choosing a fifty-year-old "Plastic Box" design that has been or is in the process of being replaced in every City that built one of these crappy things (and could afford to do so) is what ruined KCI!

We had an innovative design that met the needs of everyone traveling in or out of KCI, that could have easily met current update requirements by means of relatively inexpensive modifications, and we threw that away to copy the inconvenience of Denver and Atlanta.

Our City Government lied to us and misled us, and nobody connected with the infamous fraud, Democrat or Republican, is going to suffer any consequences.

The new KCI was going to be second rate with or without the COVID-19. It was the agenda of Black politicians (Jermaine Reed, Slick James) taking their place at the political funding trough. KCI was nice before Kansas City politicians ruined a perfectly find airport. Nothing good will come of this project AND the people who promoted it will complain that it’s inadequate. Rinse. Repeat.

Handing Massive amounts of Taxpayer's money to large Corporations does not result in Government "owning" those Corporations!

If it did, we would have Government ownership of Railroads, Telephone Systems, Banks, News Media, all Coal, Oil and Gas production, transportation, refining and distribution systems, all Farms, and damn near anything you can name that makes money.

No, it was said best here earlier Government doesn't own Corporations, the exact opposite is reality.

TOP PHOTO -- HIJACKING TAXPAYERS

With nearly perfect timing, City leadership forced through a billion(+) dollar airport terminal, heavily-subsidized convention center hotel, and expanded ToyTrain to meet the precipitous drop in tourism/travel!!!

Won't cost the taxpayers a dime!

Keep writing the White House and tell them KC is a Democrat state and the mayor wants eateries and other on a 10-10-10 plan that will put the industry out of business.

Mayor knows what he is doing will piss off Trump and local biz. He hates to admit it but he is learning on the job- which is why Trump made sure KC gets zero Federal funding on stimulus.

Write Trump and tell him about the Mayors 10-10-10 plan. Try not to laugh while you write him.

Amazing that, with revenue fallen off a cliff, the mayor and council continue new spending as if everything was normal.

WOW DID KILLA CITY GET A PAY DAY LOAN FOR THIS

NOW IF WE CAN JUST KEEP PEOPLE AT THE AIRPORT KC WONT LOOK LIKE SUCH A GHETTO

Kansas City is like the boo who has a 50000 dollar Escalade while renting a 20000dollar house full of rentacenter furniture

The KCI Terminal was suppose to be the greatest thing since G-d created Gold. I hope it ends up costing the taxpayers of Kansas City the entire cost, plus interest, because I have other property, far from Killa City, under the supervision of people with brains and common sense.

Old KCI was horrible. Fly out from one terminal - return flight to a different one? How stupid. In 1995 there were no places to eat or even get a coke after 9pm. I was told to get a cab and go to the nearest shopping area by Zone Rosa to get food. How stupid. So very glad the crappy round terminals with stupid floor coverings are gone. it was a backwards redneck blue collar cowtown junky building

^^^^You are a liar

NO, NO, NO!
Even more than the 25 million tourists are chomping at the bit to fly to the fantastic new KCI, take in the fabulous "public art", eat some overpriced cold food, spend a bunch just getting from half way to Omaha to the actual metro, and then gushing over THE streetcar.
Nothing like all this 21st Century stuff back home.
And, of course, the new terminal is going to be paid entirely by the airlines. Those same airlines that are now groveling for as much federal cash as possible just to survive.
And the Slyster, Justus, Reed and the other business geniuses who crafted this great deal for the taxpayers are all long gone.
Schulte's hiding in the JaCo courthouse.
The "smart" city".
Hahahaaha!!

You got the name of the airport wrong, it’s gonna be named after mlk or the cleaves head is gonna explode!

Can’t wait for the pending explosion!

The airport isn't due to be completed until spring of 2023, as noted in the commentary. With or without treatments or vaccinations the pandemic will cease in a 12-18 month period. KC Aviation implemented austerity measures immediately and is well funded. The new terminal project funding isn't dependent on passenger counts in the near term. $1 billion in bonds have already been sold. Aviation reserves are in excess of $150 million. The airport isn't much of an airport (the old one or the new one) but the finances are well managed. Endless airports are leveraging the reductions in passengers to expedite construction projects and KC Airport isn't the exceptions. The issue isn't old airport or new airport.

The new airport was a con job. KC was tricked into believing a lot of false promises. Too bad.

The blood tests are for the antibodies; a test pointless for the passenger boarding a plane. The virus is a respiratory virus. The swab up the nose is the better test to determine if a person is at risk to others. The advances in treatments and vaccines are well beyond the wildest initial expectations. The first treatment for HIV was 7 years into the epidemic. The first treatment for COVID-19 was 3 months into the pandemic.

Thirty more days for a cure? I can live with that!

the proposition that it wasn't a taxpayer responsibility was false all along.

now, we'll find out how much taxpayers will owe.

!! Buffett sold all his airline stocks and said he can't see flying coming back to recent levels.

Flyers aren't going to believe masks protect them much.

at least the beautiful circle fountain is still there.

Government, which has a national debt in excess of twenty-four trillion dollars, wants to take over the operation of airlines?
