BIKE WALK KC BLAMES CAR CULTURE FOR TRAGIC KANSAS CITY HIT & RUN!!!

Earlier this week we talked about this exceptionally callous urban core hit & run and the poor soul who was hit twice and dragged before anyone came to help.

Now, here's the activist take on the tragedy that condemns this entire city rather than just the scumbag who crashed into the poor guy, checked the damage to their car and then took off . . .

“The callous nature of the first driver is incredibly telling,” noted BikeWalkKC policy manager Michael Kelley. “When drivers care more about the state of their car than the condition of the person they struck, that tells us something is incredibly wrong with how we prioritize our most vulnerable road users.”

"As BikeWalkKC has stated in the past, what deserves the brunt of the blame for these crashes is the culture that values car traffic efficiency over the safety of human lives"

You decide . . .

  2. When people walking and riding bikes learn to not ride or walk in front of a three thousand pound vehicle that has the right of way......

I see people in the hood doing this crap all the time, they think they’re gonna get a payday if someone hits them, the problem is you have to survive first then you have to prove the driver did something wrong and then you better hope they have insurance otherwise you’re an idiot, just like these bike morons.

  4. THESE BIKERS ARE NOT ONLY RUDE BUT THEY HAVE TAKEN ON A NEW ATTITUDE.
GET THESE FUCKERS OFF THE ROAD. GO RIDE IN THE PARK OR ON SIDE STREETS
BUT GET THE FUCK OFF THE MAIN STREETS. YOU PUT YOURSELF AND OTHERS IN DANGER WITH THOSE BRIGHT FLASHING LIGHTS...THE RIDING IN THE MIDDLE OF MAIN STREETS AND UNLESS YOU GET OFF THOSE STREETS EXPECT TO GET HIT AND KILLED.
THESE STREETS WERE NOT MADE FOR BIKES AND CARS. MANY ARE NARROW ENOUGH FOR
    2 CARS.
SO YOU POS BIKERS GET THE F OFF THE STREET IF YOU CARE ABOUT YOUR LIVES.
TRUTH IS YOU ARE A MENACE AND A HUGE DISTRACTION TO DRIVERS.
YOU DON'T OWN THE ROADS. THE CARS DO! GO RIDE YOUR KIDDIE BIKES WITHYOUR GROSS LOOKING OUTFITS SOMEWHERE ELSE. MAYBE OUT ON THE COUNTRY ROADS WHERE THE AUTO TRAFFIC DOES NOT HAVE TO BE HAMPERED BY YOUR DISREGARD FOR THE RULES!

  7. The hypocrisy of Bike/Walk KC is what irritates me!
They use every pedestrian fatality to publicize their agenda, bellowing to the clouds as @7:54and @7:57 have done here,
but they don't give a shit about us walkers!

How many pedestrians are injured annually by bicyclists running into them? That number would be shocking, diving out of a bicyclist's way as they zoom by as fast as they can pedal (or more dangerously, coast downhill) is a common, almost inevitable experience for a walker, yet no attention is paid to that problem by Bike/Walk KC at all! EVER!

Clean your own hose before trying to use ours - get a smattering of honesty and drop the "Walk" part of your small group's name!

  8. You are just blowing smoke in your desperate attempt to save your expensive poisonous car priveledges.
Far far far more pedestrians are hurt or killed by cars than by bicycles.

  9. When your organization uses every incident as justification of your position, even when it's obvious there is no correlation, you lose your credibilty fast. It seems obvious from the article that the pedestrian struck was walking in the street, and Independence Ave has sufficient sidewalks. No amount of new bike lanes or sidewalks would have prevented this incident.

  10. That is a blatant LIE, @8:53, all Trails in KC are unsafe due to you Bicyclists, and you damn well know it!

Common Sense would say if you want to ride a bicycle safely, get a stationary bike! You get the same benefits as a regular bicycle without the hazards and all the Lycra spandex bike apparel

  14. THis is one of the reasons I left KC for Minneapolis. Much better bike infrastructure here, as I loathe cars and we need to get them off the road. Minneapolis, with it's lane design and high cost of parking, makes it expensive to drive in the core of the city, which in turn results in a lot more bikers, walkers, and transit users.
