Whilst everyone plays politico & epidemiologist . . . The smarter people in town and across the nation are grabbing cash hand over fist:

"The 18-story building will have almost 1,000 spaces in a 10-floor garage topped by eight floors of offices at 1400 Baltimore Ave. After tentative approval from the City Plan Commission and with a $100 million incentive package in hand, the developer started excavation work on the 240,000-square-foot tower."

The Kansas City Council voted 7-6 Thursday to approve plans to develop a new $140 million headquarters for Waddell & Reed Financial Inc. despite concerns about a large parking garage and how pedestrian friendly the project is. The 18-story building will have almost 1,000 spaces in a 10-floor garage topped by eight floors of offices at 1400 Baltimore Ave.

  1. They will be working from home. If Waddell & Reed were smart and looking after shareholder interests they would cancel that project. Office space is going to get real cheap.

    ...with a $100 million incentive package in hand (that's 71% of the project cost!)

    Mayor Quinton Lucas cast the deciding vote.

    The developer, a joint venture between Burns & McDonnell and an affiliate of Kansas City-based Financial Holding Corp.
