TKC EXCLUSIVE!!! KANSAS CITY PUBLIC WORKS DIRECTOR SHERRI McINTYRE RESIGNS!!! CITY HALL INSIDERS CONSIDER HER CONTENTIOUS LEGACY!!!

Special thanks to all of the KICK-ASS TKC READERS who sent messages our way about a significant 12th & Oak shakeup during already tense times for Kansas City.

To wit . . .

KCMO PUBLIC WORKS DIRECTOR SHERRI McINTYRE CALLED IT QUITS THIS WEEK AS INSIDERS WORK TO NAVIGATE THE SHIFTING CITY HALL LANDSCAPE!!!

As noted in the headline, her tenure at City Hall was sometimes tumultuous.

Locals blamed her for a great many delayed projects, she was front and center amid so many pothole debates and she was highlighted in a questionable streetcar junket to Spain.

However, she was one of the few female department leaders at City Hall and was even more exceptional in her willingness to debate with elected leaders and tell politicos "NO" on occasion.

Word is she's taking the job as the Liberty, MO public works leader -- A seemingly boring gig that will likely have fewer headaches but far less perks.

In a controversial move, 12th & Oak Insiders reveal that she attempted to anoint her successor on her way out. City Engineer, Ralph Davis is now first in line for the job as interim public works leader but nothing has been formally announced yet.

Eventually, the new city manager will play the biggest role in picking the next KCMO Public Works Director.

Accordingly, as revenues plummet amid the impact of the coronavirus pandemic, KCMO will be forced to do more with less . . . Ms. McIntyre's replacement will confront a far different local landscape wherein the serious biz of maintaining infrastructure will/should trump pet projects and tourist attractions.

Developing . . .

  1. Sherri was "contentious" when she wanted to be but she also played favorites. She didn't offer much resistance to Sly during his administration.

    1. ^^^ +1

I'm also wondering if there will be a more strict policy about public works employees sleeping in their trucks. That might be something to consider.

    2. ^^^^^^^^ Unlikely, that's a longstanding social distancing practice.

  2. Best news from City Hall all month.

Maybe this shut down is having some benefits. No reason to lift it after residents are out of their homes and able to go to back to work.

    1. Good report T, I think she was the only woman department director. The other is an interim and won't likely get the permanent job.

    2. Terry Reynard is director of parks. Tammy Cone is Finance Director. Fire chief is female.

  3. We need to fill this position with a black homosexual. The first requirement is that they be completely unqualified for the job.

  5. She actually did a lot of great work. Sherri was one of the best public works leaders KC has seen and she accomplished more with a lot more obstacles in her way. She did an EXCELLENT job. Thank you!

    1. Ok, Patty. Just because she let you “work” from home and basically run over your employees without consequences. Sherrie was horrible. She ran up costs and delays, kept incompetent staff (like you), and stood in the way of good employees. Nice try, though.

  7. At her age probably best to just retire and watch Perry Mason reruns.

  8. Really disgusted to wake up to people texting me this post and see that already people are attempting to malign the career of one of KC's best.

Sherri McIntyre is a brilliant woman, a tireless worker and a true civically minded person unlike the deplorable readers of TKC.

Those of you who know her understand that she has achieved moments milestones for Kansas City. Without her there wouldn't be a streetcar. She was able to manage and maintain dozens of public improvement projects at the same time. I see there is blathering about the potholes but she optimized some the process far greater than any other administrator.

Only those who are jealous of her will attack her "legacy" because Sherri McIntyre really made Kansas City BEST in the midwest and contributed far more than a blog that's only known for mudslinging and not providing a fair assessment of the people who work tirelessly every day for KC and create jobs and economic growth.

  13. The author of blog and his minions will clearly celebrate this latest exit from KCMO. The record is clear that he and his followers wish nothing but hate for KC. I suspect most of his followers live in JaCo or worse so its not surprising. And it is well documented that this hate is rooted in a long running family feud with KCMO.

In 7 short months, Lucas, Shields, and Loar have run off most of city leadership and left the positions either vacant or filled with incompetent “acting” managers (and “acting” is very accurate description). Here is a partial list: City Manager, Human Resources Director, Finance Director, Economic Development Director, City Attorney, Parks Director, and now the Public Works Director. Look for at least five more in the next 6 months.

Rouse is good at fiddling while Rome burns and letting the crooks take over. He will be gone as well by the end of the year.

But given the FBI has started asking around, it must have an iron-clad case. No acquittals this time. Just ask Mikey Sanders how it worked out for him.

    1. Actually, I think TKC's write-up was a lot nicer than what I've seen in the past. As for the rest of @8:15. It's a nice theory from somebody who is clearly frustrated with their lack of progress at City Hall. Sorry but "the Feds" aren't going to solve your career troubles.

  14. All those Depatment Directors and Troy left because they knew what they had managed under Sly was about to blow up in their faces!!

They left before the fraud and mismanagement was about to be exposed, and now Covid-19 will accelerate that process. Pity the poor KCMO taxpayers!!!

  22. Kc mayors racist ways are starting to show, he hates white people so he’s getting rid of all of them, he ain’t fooling anyone with this b.s.

In the middle of a pandemic at that, did he do a selfie holding up a sign telling her she was fired.... on twitter!

    ReplyDelete
  23. "Without her there wouldn't be a streetcar."

If that's true, KC taxpayers would be better off if she had resigned years ago.

    ReplyDelete
  24. With her the projected 102 million dollar toy train went over 160 million why? Because one thing they forgot about was all the old ass utilities under the streets they had to replace first.

In what world does the mayor, city clowncil and public works director not realize all that had to be replaced before they could put tracks down?

Fun fact, in five other cities that got the same 2.2 mile starter train set the average cost was 50 million dollars but ours cost over 160 million.

Reminds me of the $800 dollar gubmint hammer! BRILLIANT!

  25. Are all of the damned Paseo street sign back up yet?
That's the only question about "Public Works" that the City cares about.

  26. Constant water main breaks, streets filled with potholes, no striping of streets to diffentiate lanes,

dead landscaping on Bruce Watkins, trash on roadways...........half-ass attempts of spray painting over graffitti on the stone Bruce Watkins bridges.......no snow removal..........this Director of Public Works stunk. Good riddance.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Good timing with the downturn. The role will sit vacant for 12-18 months due to budget collapse. The public works projects will all be cancelled. She was a competent engineer in an impossible job. Few cities have done such a poor job of funding infrastructure and infrastructure maintenance over the decades. Blame the director of public works all you want, but the blame is on the elected officials and the constituents that elected the elected officials. The current mayor passed a budget with an increase year over year despite prospects of 30% unemployment. The state is preparing for a budget shortfall and so should the cities.

    1. But she wasn’t competent at all. Weird.

  28. Results matter. Public works productivity in KC sucks. Half finished projects, shoddy workmanship, calling 311 for self-evident stuff that public works people drive by every day. Don't let the door hit you on the way out!

    ReplyDelete
  29. Right now, it may not matter. Watch the public works budget hearings on their vod to see how much power the public’s works director has.

    Y’all have a great day.

  31. Please do not hire another Engineer. Hire a real Manager, and I don't mean another "go ahead and fire me, I'll sleep better and make more money" fat ass like Troy Schulte.

  32. Wow, the obnoxious fawning over a failure of a PW director who only had a bachelor's degree, little real world experience, and no PE license with a long career as a supposed civil servant making $180k a year. Don't let the door hit you in the ass on the way out you inept waste of space.
