TKC EXCLUSIVE!!! INSIDERS URGE COUNCIL SMACKDOWN AGAINST $43 MILLION IN SPORTING KC SOCCER WELFARE!!!

The coronavirus pandemic has seemingly inspired a renewed sense of fiscal responsibility at City Hall as more voters are out of work and a return to "normal" seems further away than residents had hoped.

To wit, behind the scenes and very hush, hush . . .

KANSAS CITY INSIDERS PRESS COUNCIL TO PUSH BACK AGAINST 43-MILLION BUCKS FOR NORTHLAND SOCCER!!!

There are a lot of reasons and motives for the push back but a KICK-ASS TKC TIPSTER offers the perfect perspective focused on the outrageous costs that will impact other aspects of the budget . . . Checkit:

$43M Sporting KC Welfare

Look at the ordinance’s (#200094) attached plan of finance and the row of total uses of funds.

It’s a 12 year bond that’s going to start diverting $1.5M per year from PIAC and Parks sales taxes and rise to balloon payments of almost $4M the last 6 years. That would represent roughly 5% of the current $80M or so PIAC generates now.

Nothing against sports or the Northland, but is now the best time to be writing big checks or charging on the City credit card when we are during a pandemic that has businesses shuttered and tourism at a standstill? Sales taxes are bound to be in the basement, convention business is non-existent, and we sit and wonder which restaurants and businesses will even be reopening after the shelter-in-place order is lifted and things return to some since of normalcy. Maybe this isn’t the best time to drop millions of dollars on a recreation center when the budget could be busted. We’ll see if the Council uses discretion or decides to pull the lever for big spending.

This ultimately falls on new council members O’Neil, Bunch, Parks-Shaw, Robinson, and Bough to kill this. We believe Katherine Shields is a strong no and if the new council members plus the mayor voted “no” we could kill this monstrous handout to the wealthy owners of Sporting KC.

  1. Hope there are that many no votes.

If council passes this during a lock down, they'll never have any respect from voters again.

    1. Just. Say. NO!

No more handouts to sports team.

      NO thanks.

  2. ^^Nah. Let them have it. Just because you're old, fat, out-of-shape, and lonely doesn't mean the rest of the city is. It passes easy.

  3. Wrong, wrong and wrong.

Why shouldn't the northland get some kind of amenities? Do all of the youth sports facilites have to go on the east side?

You have thousands of young people who would use this facility out north but we aren't allowed anything?

    That's just selfish.

Actually, if you look at it. This complex has the potential to generate more revenue for surrounding business in the long term than many other city projects. I'm not saying it's not a lot of money but short changing the young people in the Northland has gone on for too long.

    1. ^^^ That's great. Than sporting KC should pay for it out of their own pocket.

    2. Right, if it's such a great investment they can go to Wells Fargo. The entire city has already invested billions in Northland infrastructure. Maybe the parents shouldn't have assumed the gravy train would never end when they bought the house on the subsidized street.

    3. So you moved to the boonies on the assumption that you could apply the necessary political pressure to make everyone else pay for the amenities to make life in the boonies bearable. Nope, no more socialism for the priveledged. Socialism for all or for nobody!

  4. WTF? The city has no decent infrastructure...their taxes are non existent...many sources of revenue will never return (national hotel assn says 40% of hotels will not reopen)...the entertainment districts will take huge losses....workers in kcmo will be laid off because and these criminals want to give the Cerner boys more tax abatements. If this passes there should be a revolt and the immediate dismissal of all those who voted for it ASAP. How stupid can kcmo be?

    1. Begins?? Could you possibly be further out of touch? We have always had socialism for the wealthy. Maybe you've heard of the recent huge corporate welfare bailouts?

  6. ^^Tool. America has always been a socialist country for the wealthy and boot-strap capitalism for the poor. Learn your history. Class dismissed.

  8. So far while we have been under illegal house arrest the Mayor and City Council have been busy taking care of their donors. First $10 million for the toy train payoff to the consultants and contractors, next the $140 million giveaway to Waddell & Reed, tif lawyers and consultants, next the $42 million soccer fields, extending a TIF at the expense funding many other real functions of government. So yell and scream that you need a bailout. Are they really essential projects to be considered during this so-called crisis?

  11. Kc is the bestus as long as you’re a gazillionaire developer that gets big fat paychecks off the backs of the working poor. Has any one noticed that nothing gets done outside the downtown loop? By the way the Chinese red death virus is gonna drive people out of downtown so what will they do then?

  13. Soccer is for pussies. That’s why it’s so popular in England and France and other pussy countries in Europe. Homosexuals are a majority in Europe, probably over 80% of European men are homosexuals. Here it is only about 10%, even though it seems like a lot more because homosexuals are so obnoxious.

  15. Times are tough, even the Chiefs couldn't afford to pay a guy $2.6 million a year for 16 days of work punting a football three games a day.

Each punt was worth $55,000 a kick and yet local hospitals like Research can't afford gowns and masks for their nurses.

We have a screwed up society when it comes to priorities. Love football but Clark Hunt and team should not receive $250 million in taxpayer funds.

  16. Vote NO on the regressive fire safety sales tax increase.

  17. The city needs to stop funding items and events that benefits a very small majority of the city.

Like those bullshit apts by the river. Good people or families don't want to live downtown. The air is foul much too often and you're way to close to the high crime districts. Unless you want to be drunk all the time the downtown area does not have the infrastructure to support living in that area and it isn't going to relocate there either.

  18. Hope the council votes FOR the Sports complex in the North. Will provide economic stimulus for the Northland area in Kansas City - and help them support the Eastside moochers in KC.

  20. I don't see where this has anything to do with Sporting KC. It's an opportunity for this region to create a sports complex that is on par with what other parts of the city have. I know that the soccer complex in Overland Park has been a huge money-maker for the area.

  21. ^^^ sporting kc will run it and make money off of it so....

  24. 1:15 - Is there anything out there that connects Sporting KC to this at all? I can't find any articles or otherwise.

Seems like a bit of stretch to be pushing this project at this point in time but what do I know?

With any luck, my kids will be done with soccer by the time this place opens up so I don't have to haul all the way up there for games.

    1. Sporting will run this complex and collect all of the revenues from it. The City will handle all shortfalls and maintenance. It’s a sweet deal for Sporting.

  25. Other guys have mentioned this too. Sporting KC has no plans to move from KCK that I can find mention of. Isn't this just a Soccer complex for North Kansas City Kids?

    ReplyDelete
  26. Wait just a damn minute...Sporting KC is in KCK and KCMO should not be funding any parts of this team. They cant get away with this in
Kansas. Missouri is Kansas’ whore. Take from the rich... KC needs its money for basic services.

    ReplyDelete
  27. They can just go lobby Clay County for this bullshit if they want it up North. Kansas City shouldn’t even be considering this,
