TKC BREAKING NEWS!!! KANSAS CITY CORONAVIRUS PUBLIC SAFETY STIMULUS FUNDING AND TAX FIGHT EXPLODES!!!
Behind the scenes and very 'hush, hush' KICK-ASS TKC TIPSTERS hear City Hall tempers flare over the sordid topic of coin and debate betwixt first responders over dibs on federal stimulus.
To wit . . .
THE ONGOING KANSAS CITY POLICE VS. FIRE DEBATE RAGES AMID THE DESPERATE NEED FOR CASH!!!
Given that both Kansas City police & fire has suffered local COVID-19 infections and quarantines during this crisis, there is no arguing that BOTH of these organizations are confronting increased hardship and need.
KICK-ASS insiders clued us into this drama after a recent municipal election was delayed thanks to coronavirus: "The KCFD have a bigger problem with this postponement. The low turnout strategy to win a tax increase was essentially extinguished," a message send our way revealed.
On the record with local media and in our comment section, supporters of KCPD lamented that the public safety ask also didn't include cash for more, desperately needed, cops.
And here's where things get even more interesting . . .
AMID DEVASTATING CORONAVIRUS ECONOMIC IMPACT AND DEBATE OVER FIRST RESPONDER PECKING ORDER . . . THERE'S TALK OF PUBLIC SAFETY COVID-19 TAX INCREASE DESPITE SO MANY LOST JOBS AND EPIC DEBTS AMASSED DURING THE LOCKDOWN!!!
Tax fighters would like to think that the public despises increased levies and, for many, that's accurate . . . However, efforts like the continually renewed E-Tax and many local sales taxes prove that a well organized citywid pitch can win easily.
And so, already consultants and public safety supporters are working to craft what would essentially serve as a "local coronavirus tax" as KCMO continues to confront the rising infection & death count of the pandemic.
Developing . . .
KC will continue to need police after the lockdown is over. If anything we need to talk about supporting police more than just the politics of the situation.
ReplyDeleteCoronavirus tax sounds about right for Kansas City. That's a shame.
DeleteMake it a user fee for Johnson County residents filing their e-tax. Would pass without a problem.
DeleteI want some of that stimulus money though
ReplyDeleteit's bullshit that people who make too much money can't have some
The issue is KC is focused on the 19th century streetcars, conventions and fire departments. KC's main construction material is not wood. It time to down size the fire department and increase emergency medical services. Until that happens vote NO on the fire safety tax.
ReplyDeleteAll the houses are wood. Lookup how many people die in residential fires compared to any other fires. Apartment buildings being built now, WOOD.
DeleteThere is no way fire should get more money. They have never even attempted to get their bloated overtime under control, despite promises to do so. They have been the worst local entity in controlling their budget items. This effort should fail, and I will support reducing crime long before I support manufactured response numbers by KCFD. Vote no, urge your neighbors and friends to do the same.
ReplyDeleteOvertime cost less than hiring a new employee to fill the void. I love it when people think OT is the problem. I guess I should mention a firefighter has to work 26 hours over their regular shift to get time and a half which is what most of you would call overtime. It's called FLSA. Look it up. Paying an existing employee is more cost effective than training, equipping, insurance and retirement. Think about it. OT is not a problem, it saves money.
DeleteFd will win, FD always wins.
ReplyDelete^^You seem nice.
ReplyDeleteBoth the fire department and the police department will be getting millions in federal grants once the feds get around to throwing the money out. Why should cops and firefighters get raises when tens of thousands of taxpayers are surviving on unemployment.
ReplyDeleteWait I thought liberals wanted to give hazard pay for people dealing with what most people are scared of. If you're on unemployment your not paying taxes.
DeleteFire Department is a cushy job. Get paid to sleep, watch tv, play horseshoes, grab ass, and sleep some more.
ReplyDeleteMaybe spray some water on a car in a traffic accident, but usually just sit on the road shoulder and scratch their ass.
After 30 years of paid sleep and grab-ass, retire at age 50 with a taxpaye- funded lifetime pension plan at $80k a year. Sweet.
Don't forget CPR , burns , bedbugs , scabies , HIV, blood Guts , death, destruction and PTSD. Sign me up....
DeleteA life long democrat here. As much as I hate Trump I can say with a great deal of confidence that I would not replace the Trump administration with the politicians of this city council.
ReplyDelete^^^ +1
ReplyDeleteI don't know who leaked you this information TKC but they are not doing our city a favor.
ReplyDeleteProperly funding both police and fire should be a concern for every resident of Kansas City. Making sure they get the proper equipment saves lives, there's simply no doubt about it.
Haven't you been talking about the need to hire more police for years? If TKC is serious about this then I would expect that you would be first to support this effort. Unfortunately, so much negativity on this blog won't support any logicial consistency. Instead, I see nothing but hatred mostly from people who don't even live within the city limits.
We need to properly support police and fire in order to keep Kansas City BEST in the midwest and I think all of you haters will be suprised when the voters agree that we have to stand up for first responders and make sure they are protected. The vote won't even be close because REAL residents know that both police and fire come to the rescue of our community every day.
Best in the midwest...hahahahaha,I cant wait until my work contract is up in September to run from this shithole, now go shine Slys shoes you errand boy!
DeleteGo4KC is still licking Sly’s butthole and nutsack.
Delete^^^ Isn't city hall closed right now? I guess they're trying to get their money out of you, paid shill!
ReplyDeleteThis vote will fail big time. After people see all the tax increases that will take place due to all the handouts they sure won't be approving any additional taxes. Besides FD wastes huge amounts of money. Time to get someone brought in from outside Kansas City that knows how to be a real Fire Chief of a large city department.
ReplyDeleteLike Smokie Dyer. Because he increased staffing by 500 when all other city's were closing stations and laying off Firefighters. Ya let's get someone from out side the city. It seems to me you all know so much. I'm glad I found this place to say whatever I want.....
DeleteNobody leaked it. It's made-up nonsense. Don't buy into it, Go4KC.
ReplyDeleteYou can tell because "there's talk," and nameless "consultants and public safety supporters are working." People who don't exist don't have names, see?
Police and EMT save lives.
ReplyDeleteFire Department guys sleep and watch tv for 36 hours out of 40 per week. Other 4 hours they scratch their balls watching tow truck drivers risk their lives to remove cars from accident scenes.
They work a 49.9 hour work week. I guess you won't call when you're house is on fire then. You probably don't want auto home or life insurance either. Go ahead and throw your smoke detectors in the trash, you don't want to wake up and call the fire department, God forbid they save you or your cat. Did you know firefighters do CPR. The EMT drives the ambulance, the Medic administer meds and runs cardio monitor and firefighters do chest compression and bag or ventilate the victim. You forgot sleep and cooking.
Delete^^KCPD sucks.
ReplyDeleteYou blow
DeleteCity legislators award contracts to their consultant friends. Don't know why government fat asses get paid high salaries as they pay consultants $300 per hour to do their work for them.
ReplyDeleteLocal roads are filled with potholes. Roads, sewer, and police protection is all we need.
Should cut taxes 50% and empty out City and County Halls full of useless bureaucrats. Yhey are a duplication of State and Federal government fat asses.
Police Fire, fuck that! 18th and Vine is gonna need alotta cash, we got priorities in KCMO!
ReplyDeleteWhat about zonarosa?
DeleteThis Council could hire Jermaine Reed to make sure he new tax funding is not misappropriated to build a new grocery store.
ReplyDeleteJermaine is even more of a phony than Quinton is.
DeleteWhen things really hit the fan, people show their true colors
ReplyDeleteRequests to delay mortgage payments jump nearly 2,000% as borrowers seek immediate relief during the coronavirus outbreak.
ReplyDeleteNice time for a tax increase.
Go4KC spewed, "Unfortunately, so much negativity on this blog won't support any logicial consistency. Instead, I see nothing but hatred mostly from people who don't even live within the city limits."
ReplyDeleteGo4KC is delusional and seriously misinformed.
TKC readers put forth great ideas and SOLUTIONS.
Give to Cesar what is Cesar's and to God what is God's. Two absoluts death and taxes.
ReplyDeleteTrump lied; Americans died.
ReplyDeleteYes, yes, we know. You tell us every day, dear. Now just relax and the nurse will be by soon.
DeleteMake America Great Again?
ReplyDeleteHardly.
Look at the mess Trump has created.
When we needed many companies of fire fighters and pumpers, warehouses were built of wood. Most apartment buildings are not being built with wood and they are required to have sprinkler systems and other fire suppression systems.
ReplyDeleteSprinklers contain fire, firefighters put the fire out. Sprinklers are huge though. More so smoke detectors.
Deletecity hall should get some of the handouts from millions jackson county is giving and no new taxes
ReplyDeleteEven before this emergency KCMO government was flat out broke.
ReplyDeleteAnd any money from the feds will be thrown away with no prioritization or longer-term planning.
Just another big slush fund for the usual suspect hogs to cram their noses into.
If you think this little tiff between fire and police is a big deal, just wait for all the fights over money coming as it becomes clearer and clearer that the cupboard is bare.
Something smiles, selfies, tweets, and all the press conferences and photo ops in the world aren't going to do a thing to solve.
The flying pigs have come home to roost.
All KC's rainy day money is in developers' banks, as usual they need to tax folks rather than have an emergency fund.
ReplyDeleteHow was KC broke? They say that all the time. KC has been broke my whole life. This is not Detroit. Our houses are occupied, property tax, people pay E tax. They say we don't have money, but people still live here, work here and pay here. The money is here, don't believe they don't have any money. This City is not broke.
ReplyDeleteIf we vote for more taxes then we will have more stuff. Better streets, bigger biasness. Why not I like cool stuff.
Delete
ReplyDeleteGot a garden hose for my ranch house. Don't need a fire department. Since City don't fix the streets don't need a city government.
Why pay taxes so Frank White doesn't have to pay his property taxes and golfs for free at Longview Lake. I hear he gets free hot dogs out there at the clubhouse as well.
OMG FREE HOT DOGS
