Livestream Event Will Push City Council For Bolder Action Against COVID-19

Tomorrow, on Thursday, Communities Creating Opportunity (CCO) will host a Facebook Live event to lift up the voices of those impacted by the COVID-19 crisis and call on the Kansas City Council to take bolder action to protect the most vulnerable.

This event follows the letter and petition that CCO sent to the city council, urging policies like cash assistance for Kansas Citians who have lost jobs or income. CCO will now broaden its demands.

As the COVID-19 crisis further devastates the public health and economy of Kansas City, especially black Kansas City, the need for bold action from the Mayor and City Council grows all the more urgent. Their work thus far has been positive, but much more is needed to protect the lives and livelihoods of the most vulnerable in our communities -- and it needs to happen NOW.

Join CCO's livestream from our Facebook page to listen to the voices of residents impacted by this crisis, like parents, food pantry workers, and healthcare workers. Join us as we solidify and broaden our demands to the City Council in the name of human dignity for all and mitigation of the most devastating effects of this virus. It is imperative that Kansas City stand as one behind the sick and the poor -- and for swift, bold, proactive policies.

Please sign our petition in advance and tune in on Thursday! We will see you then.

  1. Seems like council is helping out Wadell & Reed and Cordish. Maybe directing some of those funds to citizens would make KC a better place.

    2. They should transfer some of the money being given to 18th & Vine. Those ripoff funds would be better spent ANYWHERE else. Even given away to help people having a hard time.

All entertainment district money is just thrown away.

  2. Poor people should buy an airline. Then they 'll totally get a federal bailout.

    1. Um there's this thing. It's a pandemic. The health care system would crash and burn. But everything would be just fine, right?

  6. May as well start maxing out those credit cards since all debt will be forgiven after this pandemic is all finished.

  7. Just when you might have thought that all the do-gooder organizations that specialize in giving away other people's money have already weighed in, along comes another.
Wouldn't want to miss the latest invitation to the public trough and demonstrate their SJW cred.
    EVERYTHING should be FREE.
A little adult supervision might be in order, but is very unlikely to be found at 12th and Oak.
