SHAME!!! KANSAS CITY RENT STRIKERS THREATEN 79-YEAR-OLD WOMAN!!!

A social justice movement and reasonable concern about housing during a historic pandemic lockdown has quickly transformed into an ugly instance of online bullying and vicious culture war politicking against some poor old lady.

To wit . . .

SOME (BUT NOT ALL) RENT STRIKERS SPAMMED AN OLD LADY'S DEETS FAR & WIDE BECAUSE SHE WROTE A PASSIVE AGGRESSIVE NOTE OUT OF FEAR OF LOSING HER DUMPY RENTALS!!!

Admittedly, the old lady's message was rude, terse and inconsiderate but not completely incorrect.

There are, in fact, not many eviction protections in Clay County right now.

Responsible leaders are directing their criticism against elected officials and demand the Guv Parson intervene to help locals unable to pay rent with a moratorium on evictions and enforcement . . .

UPDATE: There is verified word that a few leaders of KC Tenants participated in this smear campaign against the old lady. Developing . . .

Sadly, SOME overzealous KC metro rent strikers sought to make a worried old lady into an "enemy of the people" when she is likely just as broke as her tenants.

This situation is exceptionally tragic given that recent KCMO City Hall fair housing advocacy has unfairly depicted landlords as evil corporations when, in fact, a great many "home providers" own only one or a few properties that provide the bulk of their income -- Their relationship with renters is hardly "haves vs. have-nots" but instead many (if not most) transactions are among people from THE VERY SAME WORKING-CLASS DEMOGRAPHIC.

Check the story and realize that the constant American culture war is viciously effective in sparking outrage and influencing voters but ultimately thwarts any real understanding within communities and sacrifices mercy or consideration of individuals and their unique experiences and needs . . .

Landlord's notice to tenants circulates on social media

Deets from the son taking an interview:

His 79-year-old mother has been inundated with nasty and threatening phone calls and text messages.

"While the notice she posted may seem to lack compassion, there is no stimulus relief for individual landlords and she still has to pay the insurance, water, public lights, trash pickup, etc for her tenants. Please consider all sides," he wrote.

You decide . . .

Very sad, hope there would be better from this "movement"

Like, say, just a little bit of compassion.

    3. Yeah, some compassion from Judy would have been nice. Anyway, good luck getting an eviction based on a couple days rent being late. And good luck renting to anyone in the future if something were to happen to her apartments by tenants on their way out. small business owner? Nah, just a nasty piece of work

  3. As a landlord she was in her rights to make notice of what is probably in peoples lease agreement with her. And how many of these losers reaching out to her are able to pay some of their rent and are refusing to pay any of it. This Kc Tenants thing is nothing but a base for those who think they have a right to not pay for whatever reasons and that they have a right to illegally squat on your land. The person who made this notice public is a total asshole far as I'm concerned as it was none of their business to begin with. The landlords son did reply with the truth that landlords face. $100 late fees isn't that rare either .

    1. If as a landlord it's her right to not expect any reduction on her income despite many tenants losing theirs (has she considered "borrowing from a friend") how is it not the Tennant's right to express free speech as guaranteed under the Constitution?

      Delete
    2. Yeah only after the CARES act that was signed at the end of March makes it federally ILLEGAL to charge late fees during this pandemic. Period. 4042(c). Being a landlord isn't a job, she's just a leach trying to trick and manipulate people who don't know otherwise.

      Delete
    3. Just because she can, doesn't mean she should. She's a blood sucking landlord. Why hasn't she been saving money for a rainy day? All those deposits she kept should have been saved. Zero sympathy.

  8. Maybe rental insurance should contain provisions for payment of rent in the event of loss of job. Maybe property insurance on rentals could do the same for landlords who have renters unable to pay. Maybe late fees the owner collects could be used as a contingency fund for emergencies. Just saying.....

  9. Dear slumlords, what’s really your overhead costs per unit on average? How much of the rent is profit? Couldn’t the profit piece be waived for 30-90 days?

    2. ^^^please use some common sense. A lease agreement still obligates you to the full amount owed. The issue is can landlords give a break to renters who are verifiably unemployed a forebearance for until the the stay at home order is lifted. The balance still being paid by the time the lease is renewed. If not paid, the lease is not renewed and the balance owed taken to small claims court.

Your response is more about you being a prick than having business smarts.

    3. ^^^So you make a prick reply while ignoring the point being made. You totally avoided the issue of you taking less for what you do or have. Very common sense look at it and you as usual gave a reply containing any common sense thought.

  10. These tenant rights activists will never own a house let alone a trailer. They're shooting themselves in the foot if any legislation ever passes. Rents will double and then they'll be living IN A VAN DOWN BY THE RIVER!

  11. Nothing reasonable about KC Tenants or their overlord Tara Raghuveer. The Missouri governor wont do anything and the KC mayor Quinton Lucas cannot do anything. The process to evict a tenant isn't quick or easy and limiting evictions at this point in time will have little effect on the outcomes. Unfortunately, the supply for low cost rentals will decrease dramatically due to the adverse actions by the renters and the politicians.

  14. What we all know here is that scammers such as say Bryon will use this period of time to skate on paying anything and everything as much as they can. There are people with jobs right now who are quitting so they can get the gravy train unemployment money. Well guess what people you will be caught and you will be forced to pay back. After this is all over those who have pulled scams will be sought out and dealt with. Think I'm kidding just you wait and see. Some people truly and really do need some help and others don't that are truly just lazy jerks looking for a free ride from paying anything while getting some tats, buying bags full of booze for the parties taking place since the bars are closed. Maybe now's the time the gov starts withholding 10% of what you make for your own personal savings acct that is your emergency slush fund for times like this.

    ReplyDelete
  15. ^^^stupid comment. Nobody Is skating on a signed lease. Delaying collection from those people who are truly out of work is not losing out on rent. The rent just gets made up before the end of the lease. Stop being ignorant.

  18. KC Tenants and the awe-inspiring leader Tara Raghuveer are upset without opportunities to be the 3 year old kicking and screaming in the grocery store demanding cookies. No audience for the kicking and screaming during the "stay at home". I think Mayor Selfie is happy to be free of the "children" for the time being. He used them to get elected and then ceased to communicate. So sad with all of the efforts to elect Mayor Q the "tenants rights" organization benefited none whatsoever.

  22. 7008 N Church Road is a 4 plex that's far from being what you'd call a dump. Lot of comments being made here that are totally false. George and Judy Townsend were like by the community and a part of our community for many years. I hope their son hires an attorney to go after those making all the false statements and so forth here as well as those goons at the KC Tenant clown show. Judy is a rather blunt to the fact sort of person and from looks of things was reminding her tenants of their lease agreements. As for the joker claiming to know her Social Security check amounts just proves how stupid they are and how ignorant a good number of you commenting here are.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Public information is not slanderous. If 7008 is not a dump, how is it getting taxed so low? She only pays $2000 in property taxes. From Clay County:

      Assessed Value Total (AVR) 25,860
      Taxable Value Total (TVR) 25,860

      Delete
    2. The assessed value of a property often bears little relationship to its fair market value, no matter what state statutes say. Since you know the address, drive by it and see for yourself what kind of property it is.

      Delete
    3. Meaning, her property assessed values need to go up and she needs to pay more taxes.

      Delete
    4. I live 4 blocks from there so I know. Maybe you should ask Clay Country that question and stop being ass on Social Media about what you don't know. What do neighboring properties pay? BTW fool a home valued at 150k such as mine is I pay just over 2k in taxes a year on it. So if your saying it's based on what you claim then she wouldn't pay $500 a year on it. So see you're spreading false crap. Different property types have various types of tax assessed on the land and its structures. The amount that a property is taxed comes from a percentage of the assessed value of the property. In general, the assessed value tends to be lower than the appraised fair market value of property. Now if you actually owned something you would know such but you don't and would rather be a fool making false claims.
Now you take my grandmothers home in Overland Park as it is valued more than mine she pays only a smaller amount in tax more than I do but her total assessment is lower than mine. So see it varies from here to there and so forth. But as I said you don't know crap about real estate taxing.

  24. Just because it is legal doesn't make it moral. We should absolutely be putting these landlords on blast and publicly shaming them, because the alternative is to hang them up in the streets. All rent seeking behavior does is transfer wealth from someone who has something to someone who doesn't: it creates no new value.

Simply owning capital doesn't entitle you to the wealth accumulated by people who actually have jobs.

    Fuck this lady
