April rent checks are due today, but tenants in cities across the U.S. say they won't pay, either due to economic hardship or to increase leverage for political demands.

  1. Prediction: Landlords are not going to know what hit them; it's going to be like nothing they've ever seen.

  2. You signed a contract and owe the rent. The unemployment payments should more than cover rent.

  4. Pay what you can. These rental companies and landlords are gonna get their money. They don't care about what you are going thru. They want their money. They'll either see you in court or see you on your credit report.

  5. The unemployment payments are enhanced with a $600 per week for four month bonus of sorts from the feds. Obviously unemployment will not be received for a short period of time but the rent is due and the tenants need to work with the landlord to pay the rent. Not paying the landlord isn't going to solve the issue. The landlord isn't prevented from posting a notice of eviction; the landlord is prevented from eviction for a short period of time. When that period of time end the tenants will be immediately evicted. The landlord needs to pay the bills also.

  7. All not paying rent does is dig a deeper hole for the paycheck to paycheck idiots. They might get over short term, but with no spending discipline it will eventually be lights out (literally).

  8. Commercial landlords are making quiet concessions on rent, especially to small businesses.

Apartment landlords should do the same thing. If there are mass evictions, it will help propel a negative feedback loop.

If a depression mentality sets in, it won't be in the interests of landlords.

A two month hit to rents might be the best investment protection a landlord can make for his long-term vslue.

  9. ^^Agree completely, but the way to start the dialogue is not by declaring a rent strike or refusing to pay anything.

  10. All these section ape losers get their payments made by Uncle Sam so what’s the problem?

  11. Glad I am not a landlord, especially a paycheck to paycheck landlord who never fixes shit because they gamble the rent monies received.
