The reality is that only a vaccine is going to improve air travel in the next couple of years as this town is now stuck with an airport that mostly belongs to an airline in major distress . . . Read more:

Southwest CEO: Airline will be 'drastically smaller' if business doesn't improve soon

Southwest Airlines CEO Gary Kelly, like his counterparts at other companies pummeled by the coronavirus crisis, has been fielding questions about the impact from anxious employees for nearly two months. The questions, which Kelly answers in videos sent to its 60,000 workers, have taken a sobering turn at perennially profitable and always upbeat Southwest, underscoring the industry's uncertain future.

  1. Slash plane parking fees in the hope of gaining market share as a storage facility to partially offset lost gate revenue, and market the airport as the destination of choice to mothball unused aircraft... it's about the only choice left when the airport is taking on a new couple of BILLION in debt at the same time that the airline industry is tanking.

    2. Must be Pelosi's advisor too, they are making a killing on their 5 mill Amazon stock purchase back in January after closed door meetings.

The longer the lock down the greater the reward for her service to her country.

  2. Don't charge for parking and multiple other fees and you are back in business by July. Do not re-elect Mayor Q.

  3. Just CANCEL KCI and throw the con man promoters in jail. Far better to cancel it now before any more money is wasted.

No wait! Built a stockaid and throw the con artists in it so they can watch all 5 planes every day and remember what they did.

  4. Just remember that promise that the new airport would be 100% paid for by usage fees when the first millions come out of the general fund to cover the shortfall... and then realize how predictible this outcome was by taking a look at the P/L, Sprint Center, 18th & Vine, Lowe's hotel, and pretty much every other eco-devo scheme the City has been involved with.

    1. No kidding, worse than all the touri$ty and TIF and sports give a ways put together. Actually KCI is just another touri$ty give away, but the most expensive and the most precarious.

    2. Strange that the Democrats threw away all those dollars by handing fat contracts to long time Republican-supporting Design and Construction Firms, isn't it?

  6. The airport construction project is a two year projects. In the event the passenger numbers do not increase at the end of the two year mark the airport will be the least of the concerns. As highlighted over and over again, the airport budget is well managed, the KCMO budget is not well managed. Neither the City Council nor police nor fire are currently working to address the revenue shortfalls.
