LOCAL CHEF COLBY GARRELTS ATTACKS KANSAS CITY MAGAZINE OVER CORONAVIRUS 'BEST OF ISSUE' AND SOCIAL MEDIA SLAP FIGHT ERUPTS!!!

For the more refined denizens of the Kansas City discourse, let's enjoy a bit of gourmet online beef and a flame war betwixt the social media elite.

To wit . . .

CHEF COLBY GARRLETS BRINGS OUT THE KNIVES AGAINST KC MAGAZINE AND THE CORONAVIRUS BEST OF EDITION!!!

For those who know, "Colby Garrelts is the Chef/Co-owner of Bluestem and Rye. Bluestem is a 2015, 2016, & 2017 James Beard Semifinalist for Outstanding Restaurant. Chef Colby is also a 2013 James Beard Foundation Best Chef: Midwest award winner." And I guess all of that gives him the right to not only weigh in on local lifestyle mags but also charge 12 bucks for a grilled cheese sammich . . . Or whatever.

The foodie big boy even made his post public so that scumbags like TKC Readers could smell the hateration he's cooking . . .

"Just saw a social media post from a local KC Magazine for nominations for "Vote for the Best of KC 2020!!" I went to their website and next to the large box of where to vote was the list of their most current articles and most of them were about restaurants that are closed and never reopening from this terrible tragedy that we're all experiencing. Maybe now is not the time for bullsh*t listicles that sell magazines. #sadlynotsurprised"

First of all, it's NEVER a good time for listicles . . . And he's not wrong. Best Of issues are mostly a notorious ad game ploy for msm publications. BUT, some of our far more informed online pals offer another perspective on the drama and the online push back.

"The magazine's art director has a scathing rebuttal where she admits the staff has been furloughed. (In the publication biz, they might as well ring the death knell.) Let's just say her response went over like a lead balloon."

Now, she didn't make her comments public so let's call her Britney or Courtney or Becky . . . In fairness, here's her cringe worthy retort and proof that the pricey Barstow school isn't worth the money -- Except for parents who are using the glorified elite babysitting service as a networking opportunity to garner cash from their betters . . . But I digress. Check tragic behind the scenes confessional of a local lifestyle magazine millennial:

"Many of my friends know that I work for Kansas City magazine as their art director. Currently we have all been laid off but have continued to volunteer and work for free because we feel our city needs news about everything that’s going on right now, good and bad. It truly breaks my heart to see posts and comments like this that tear us down and spew hate. We work for free, work overtime and plain just work our butts off to promote local businesses and get people up to date content. I don’t think people always remember that behind companies are people just like them. We are struggling right now too, we are a local business. We have given love to so many people to show what they are doing during this difficult time, to see that love not given back is very painful. I just ask that everyone please remember we are all in this together and we need to life each other up, not tear each other down. Everyone stay safe and healthy and if anyone needs anything please don’t hesitate to reach out to me. And if you know someone that’s doing something awesome right now please share. We want people to know how wonderful KC can be."

Accordingly . . .

THE COLBY GARRELTS HATCHET JOB IN DEFENSE OF JOURNALISTIC STANDARDS (LULZ!) GARNERS SUPPORT WHILST, SADLY, NOBODY FEELS SORRY FOR A BROKE-ASS KANSAS CITY RAG OR THE NEXTGEN STRUGGLING TO BECOME INFLUENCERS!!!

Moreover, this exchange offers one of many signs that the people of Kansas City, at least the middle-class, aren't "all in it together" amid the coronavirus pandemic. In fact, our service industry pals seem increasingly vicious as economic hard times worsen throughout this cowtown.

  1. Very delicious drama.

Have to say that Rye is one of the best restaurants in town.

    Advantage goes to the chef.

    1. With an unmitigated Asshole as Chef!
The only worse COOK in Town runs "Le Fou Frog", and everyone knows what a butthead he is!

  2. Did they give him a bad review? Payback can be tough. Both of these people seem like they're living in a different world.

    Who would work for free?

And why would an award winning chef waste his time attacking a struggling magazine?

    Sad.

  3. I thought chefs generally had small egos and take critical media in stride.

  6. Will Kansas City Mayor issue a stay at home order until homicides are reduced to zero?

Right now, homicides are far out-pacing corona viris deaths 53 to 15.

Weird Boy / Boomer Hater / Trump Hater was posting hysteria last month when we predicted homicide deaths would exceed corona virus deaths in KC for 2020 and Weird Boy thought all of KC would perish.

Left wing media and their so-called medical experts also predicted 2 million American deaths.

Apparently President Trumps outstanding efforts saved 1,950,000 American lives per their predictions..

Meanwhile Sleepy Joe Bidwn napped through the pandemic; occassionally waking to yell some nonsense then go back to sleep.

    Poor Sleepy Joe.

  7. Colby Garrelts needs to grow a set of balls and be a man. Not everybody is going to like his stuff. Man showed he's a bigger pussy than Funkhouser.

  8. Apparently Garrelts is as susceptible to click-bait as he would be to the Kungflu. I wouldn't give that fatass a hot second if he caught the wutang. Get back to preppin the veggies Colby.

  9. Colby calls out the journo & in typical journo fashion, they us the worn out excuse of being overworked & with little to no pay and blames Colby as being the insensitive one. And the media wonders why we hate them.

    1. Actually, the Media, like everyone else on the Planet, doesn't give a shit who you hate.

  10. Everyone in publishing knows that the "Best Of" magazine lists are a complete joke. People actually think the readers determine the winners. Not. The Publisher, Advertising Sales Director and Editor select the winners. Trust me, they are not going to let an advertiser lose the "Best of" to a non-advertiser.
