KC TENANTS RAMP UP 'RENT ZERO' DEMANDS AS CORONAVIRUS WORSENS!!!

Kansas City arguments against the rent are on the rise as economic help is yet to arrive and the cornavirus death toll mounts.

To wit . . .

KC TENANTS ESCALATE ONLINE PROTESTS FOR FREE RENT DURING THE CORONAVIRUS LOCKDOWN!!!

Their social media presence is filled with tragic stories of personal struggle and a call to action against this month's rent.

Here's a new declaration from their website:

KC Tenants COVID Response

"We are an organization led by a multiracial, multigenerational base of poor and working class tenants in Kansas City. KC Tenants are organizing to ensure that everyone in KC has a safe, accessible, and truly affordable home.

"We are experiencing a public health crisis. This situation will affect our poor and working class community members the most, only worsening the constant injustice they face. People who are housing-insecure or currently homeless are at a higher risk of being exposed to the virus, becoming ill, and suffering catastrophic health outcomes. Many tenants simply don’t have rent money because they’ve been laid off. All of this is unacceptable. If you are a tenant in Kansas City (and surrounding areas), KC Tenants has your back."

Counterpoint . . .

A local denizen of the comments offers a rebuttal to their argument in his own, unique homespun style:

Super Dave: Story about Reality

It’s rather interesting the amount of discussion is taking place over renter strikes, businesses wanting deals on their leases everybody wanting free this and that. Nothing is free when it comes to commodities and real estate. Somebody somewhere is paying for it and they can only afford to do so when somebody else pays them for the goods they have to offer. So if businesses and landlords cease to have money coming in they can no longer provide you with the services that you think for whatever reason you are entitled to. But life is a hard lesson to learn and in the end you’re not entitled to shit as Tony Soprano once said and the quicker you learn and understand that the better you can function in life.

Stop and think for a minute if everything becomes free just how long do you think that would last? Nobody has to work anymore; nobody needs a paycheck, because everything is free. Now all of us with a lick of common sense know that can’t happen and it never will happen. The world will always need the ditch diggers and the corporate CEOs. Honestly one can’t live without the other as it takes both to make the world operate. But of course the ditch diggers will always hate the CEOs because they think they are not sharing the wealth with them. Many a business owner today started out more or less as a ditch digger and worked their way up in the world not all have had an easy ride or riches handed to them.

But so many think that only the poor and the middle class are the only ones who are being hurt by this pandemic. That is so far from the truth it’s not even funny.

Mr. Public Attorney calls his landlord and tells him that he needs a break on his rent for his big offices because the courts are shut down he’s unable to meet with clients and has suffered a cash flow issue. So the landlord says in return that he can understand that so they agree that Mr. Attorney needs to pay at least half of his rent only for the next two months but will be responsible for paying that other half within six months and they will look at it again in two months if this crisis bears the need to extend the agreement. Mr. Attorney is happy with this deal as it will allow him to not let all his staff go on unemployment for the time being. Three days later Mr. Public Attorney is on the phone screaming at his landlord because the trash hasn’t been emptied or the restrooms cleaned. The landlord responds back explaining that in order to lower the rent as much as he did; he had to cut costs on his end as well by discontinuing the janitorial services, nonessential maintenance costs and landscaping in the meantime. The landlord explains that by not getting 100% of the rent owed along with CAM costs he had to discontinue many things to avoid going bankrupt himself.

The above paragraph could have been in more detail but you get the general idea what I’m talking about. Everyone wants to pay abbreviated costs during these hard times or no cost at all but at the same time feel they are entitled to have 100% all of the services that 100% of their rent is to provide. As I said, nothing is free; there are costs involved with everything. All of this stimulus money we think we’re getting is all going to have to be paid back in the end and if you think not you’re in for one huge rude awakening. The utility companies, the mortgage companies, the car loan people, everybody that’s giving you a break right now on what you pay you’re still going to owe 100% of your agreed-upon rent or loan obligations in the end. All this free tax money you think you’re getting you’re going to pay for this in the end, money does not grow on trees nor does it free flow out of printing presses. Programs will be cut or money available for other services might not be there. We very well could see state and federal taxes rise due to all these handouts.

We’ve had it pretty easy for a number of years here in the United States and a huge dose of reality has slapped us upside the head. Many of us need to rethink our lifestyles and how we live and how we spend our money. Having a good time all the time is fun while having a new car every year is cool but in the end will either those two items pay your bills if you hit a rough stretch in life for a couple three months?

This is a good time in life for everyone to learn the importance of saving for a rainy day, the importance of not having all your savings tied up in accounts that lose their value overnight if the stock market crashes or we have a real recession. Nothing talks better than good old pieces of paper with dead presidents on it. But remember the huge majority of those landlords themselves are probably and maybe only four months away from being bankrupt if no money is coming in. So if your landlords agree to cut a deal with you, honor that deal and pay what you owe and use any stimulus money you get or unemployment money very wisely and not waste it on hoarding items or nonessential items. Everyone needs to be smart and act smart not only today but in the future and learn from this experience as our elders did back in the late 20, 30s and first part of the 40s that you can indeed live quite well with less.

  9. If the government wants us to shelter at home or shutter businesses then they need to pick up the tab for rent. That means in the short term you suspend payments nationally for rent, mortgages, insurance and utilities and taxes. Landlords and other businesses can them file claims for reimbursement after the emergency and the government can reimburse landlords and businesses with cash or tax credits.

I think that most people are responsible and would appreciate the help. Yes there will be freeloaders but in these times that's the least of our worries.

  11. 10:32 4700 people and more per day die here in our country alone. Do we suspend all payments due to that? Do we shut down the country due to that? So many want the country shut down, want Trump to order such but don't in any way want to be financially responsible for it. It just don't work that way people.

So do you have any solutions?

  26. We definitely need to bring our pharmaceutical, medical masks. Medical equipment manufacturing back to United States soil.

Lock down the borders and international air travel.

President Trump is ordering 3M to ship 10 million masks they manufactured in China to the United States.

Globalism is a failure as it only hurts the United States. We would not have had these shortages in the 1980's and prior years as the United States still manufactured medical and high tech goods in the U.S.

God forbid we have a WWIII or we would really be in trouble from a manufacturing standpoint.

  27. How about sales tax zero and property tax zero movement. I don't understand why landlords are being singled out to give their service for free. How about everyone else give their service free.

  28. Next stimulus package should be to build new factories for medical supply manufacturing and hospitals to create jobs. Build an extra VA hospital in each state for emergencies such as this.

  29. The simple lack of medical equipment manufacturing in the United States is killing the economy right now.

We could all be working by wearing a N95 mask, latex gloves and washing our hands many times a day. Big jugs of hand sanitizer everywhere. Vitamin C pills for everyone to build up immunity. The media has scared everyone to inaction.

Start dosing out the anti-malarial drug as it seems to be working.

  38. 12:47: Fortunately, I don't need anyone to take care of me, but that doesn't prevent me from realizing I am extremely fortunate and wondering about people who aren't so fortunate.

It seems obvious to me that people whose income has stopped can't make payments of any kind, and that includes tenants, landlords, homeowners, bankers, etc. Of course, we could always say it's their fault for not being born to rich families who could take care of them, but that doesn't do any good.

I'm still waiting to hear some solutions. One of mine would be that we order the economy frozen and some kind of debit card system be enacted after which this country consider a universal basic income.

That's your solution? So you're more than willing to work the same as you have been while getting less than you have been so you can pay into a system that will ultimately only create lazy ass people.

Fuck you moron, you're nothing but a socialist supporter.

  42. waived waiting period for unemployment, relief checks coming, extra unemployment benefits...most should be able to pay their rent, if not cancel your cable and phone if still can't pay rent then I sympathize with you, but really any responsible person should have an emergency fund for at least 3 months of expenses.

  43. We also don't shut down rent for the dead druggies, the dead homeless, the dead from auto accidents, the hundreds of thousands killed in bicycle accidents according to Bike Walk KC, the thousands who die from smoking and alcoholism or of course the FLU and in KC the murders.
We don't have to worry about these people because they aren't going to pay their rent anyway and then eventually will be evicted and claim it is because of racism.

    "you’re not entitled to shit"

The whole point of the disastrous Trump Ascendancy was how much white, middle class men felt aggrieved that they weren't getting everything they felt they were entitled to. For some reason they thought this rich buffoon would save them. One of their afflictions/pastimes is looking down their noses at poor people, & hating on poor people to the point of dying their common humanity.

If you want to be a zombie like Kushner, & evict everyone because that's the law & you have zero empathy, you will reap a whirlwind that you probably deserve. There has never been a time in history when poor people just quietly starved to death. If you have ever gone without food (or studied biology), then you would understand why there is no other possibility ...

We will literally "Eat the Rich".
