  1. The only time you can ask to cancel rent is if you are not in the space due to something beyond your control. Like the virus and doing business. If you occupy a space you have to pay rent, you are getting services rendered to you. You people who live in apartments or other rentals need to pay rent. You should have received stimulus money and there are also a lot of hiring during the lock down.

    1. Actually the Gov does have authority to suspend rent and mortgage. If you think this is not needed it's because you are intentionally looking away.

  2. Actually, no governor has the power to suspend either. Both rent and mortgage debt almost always involves interstate commerce, and only the feds can interfere with that... reference about 200 years of supreme court rulings if you still have doubts.

    1. Oh right, $$$$ Trillions of free money welfare for rich corporation "people", $1200 for actual people, but you just can't imagine how things could possibly be any different.

    2. Pointing out the fallacy that governors could suspend rent and mortgage debt does not equate to support for the massive corporate give-aways. I get it, case law and logic is tough for many, but simply wishing does not make it so.

  3. It's beyond comical and hypocritical for the New York Times to think they can address rent issues in KC when NYC has the highest cost of living, the greatest housing shortage in the US, and their homeless population at an all-time high.
Perhaps their intellect and recommendations would be of more help right where they live.
Just more "fly0ver country" slumming for another east coast supplier of sanctimony.
    Charity begins at home.

    1. Jesus Christ, get a fucking grip, it's a news story about homes and people, not an endorsement of everything in New York.

  4. Just make sure those protestors don't attend a drive through church service !

    Signed: Governor Granny
