Kansas City Water Department Assures Supply Safe From Coronavirus And Stops Non-Payment Late Fees, Shutoffs

A few interesting bits of public info for Kansas City from this City Hall department . . . Here's the recent news blast and a highlight:

KC Water Will Waive Late Fees for Customers

KC Water recognizes the financial uncertainty many families are facing during the Stay at Home order. To help, KC Water will waive late fees on bills with bill dates of April and May. KC Water has also temporarily stopped water shut-offs related to non-payment. This will be reassessed periodically based on the pandemic status and customers will remain responsible for their outstanding balances.

While there will be no service disconnections during this time, customers will continue to receive account and payment reminders.

At www.kcwater.us customers can pay their bill, enroll in auto-pay, set up a payment arrangement and start or stop service. Payments can also be made over the phone by calling 311 (816-513-1313) and selecting option 1. A payment drop box is available near the building entrance at 4800 E. 63rd Street.

KC Water also wants to assure customers their tap water is safe to drink. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), there is no evidence the coronavirus is present in or is transferred by drinking water supplies. The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) also says Americans can continue to use and drink water from their tap as usual.

KC Water meets all present EPA treatment requirements that prevent waterborne pathogens such as viruses from contaminating drinking water. These treatment requirements include filtration and disinfectants such as chlorine that remove or kill pathogens before they reach the tap.

Bad update from KC Water. Unless they are responding to a specific rumor the assurance is likely to cause more alarm.

I only drink filtered rain water to prevent any contaminated substance from entering my precious bodily fluids.
