KANSAS CITY STREETCAR SUFFERS CORONAVIRUS RIDERSHIP DECLINE OF MORE THAN 57% AMID LOCKDOWN!!!

A global pandemic finally offers statistical proof that the Kansas City streetcar is not a viable form of public transit during emergency situations.

To wit . . .

KANSAS CITY TOY TRAIN STATS REVEAL AN EPIC DECLINE IN RIDERSHIP AMID THE MARCH CORONAVIRUS LOCKDOWN!!!

We begged for these numbers sooner BUt, at the very least, must give credit to KC Streetcar leaders for eventually providing the stats at near the end of April.

KC Streetcar estimated 89,211 riders in March of 2020.

Back in the glory days of March 2019, streetcar officials claimed 211,456 riders.

To wit . . .

THE DECREASE OF 57.81% IS THE GREATEST DROP-OFF IN STREETCAR RIDERSHIP KANSAS CITY HAS WITNESSED SINCE THE TOY TRAIN LAUNCHED!!!

Again, we'll share the love and the deets and allow KC Streetcar officials a chance to explain the most descriptive stat update they've ever offered.

Accordingly . . .

DON'T EXPECT STREETCAR NUMBERS TO RETURN TO FORMER GLORY AFTER THE REOPEN GIVEN THE LACK OF A CORONAVIRUS VACCINE!!!

Of course, the party never stops for some and there will be an increase . . . However . . .

This dramatic decline in ridership demonstrates, once and for all, that the streetcar is a luxury and not a necessity for Downtown residents. Moreover, in the days, weeks and months ahead -- Viewing streetcar as a tourist attraction and not REAL transit will help locals make vital financial decisions that will determine Kansas City's economic fate.

  1. Oh TKC, have some fun in life.

The title here should have been: Ride The Rona Train!

    That would have done it!

  2. “I see the disinfectant, where it knocks it out in a minute — one minute — and is there a way we can do something like that, by injection inside, or almost a cleaning. Because you see it gets in the lungs and it does a tremendous number on the lungs. So it would be interesting to check that. So, that, you’re going to have to use medical doctors with. But it sounds interesting to me.”

    1. Too bad the greatest country can't come up with a better way to house homeless people! Oh well, it's just another problem that can't be solved while spending a trillion dollars a year on the greatest army.

    2. How much money do you give annually to house the Homeless? Or do you just expect the Government to do so ?

    3. I give trillions to house homeless soldiers and war profiteers and corrupt war mongering politicians. You?

    4. No you don't.

  4. Wow Tony you seem surprised that ridership during a period when the city was under a stay-at-home order.

    Think much?

  5. Of course it's not real transit yet dummy, it's still only one fucking mile long!
When is Tony going to explain why rail transit is good for so many cities from Denver to Wuhan but it just can't possibly work here?

    Tony? Hello?

  6. Shocking... the city is damn near closed, tourism is dead, and a transportation option that at MOST can take you from your car to the bar you're grabbing a drink has lost riders. Next, you'll tell us that swimsuit sales decline in the winter.

    1. But taxpayers aren't forced to pay for swimsuits, dummy!

    2. Well we are also paying taxes for roads etc etc etc that aren't being used as much but you want just want to use a pandemic to make a political hit on transit. Fucking ghoul.

  7. Once again, more proof that the streetcar ridership numbers are completely fabricated. They say 89,000 riders in March? Who are these people and where are they going? If they happen to work and live near the streetcar line, their offices are closed so they're not riding it to work. Restaurants and bars are closed. So who are these 89,000 people and where are they going on the two mile streetcar when the entire downtown is shut down?

    1. No kidding, downtown is a ghost town. If they say 100 a day I'd still question that.
