Kansas City-area residents concerned about making April rent amid COVID-19 crisis
KANSAS CITY, MO (KCTV) -- It's April 1 and rent is due. Evictions have been paused across the metro, but some say this is a short-term solution to a long-term housing problem. On a typical day, data from KC Tenants shows on average there are more than 40 families evicted in Jackson County every day.
Most landlords are Republicans & they will not wave the rent. As the number of homeless sky rockets, it'll be harder to claim that poverty is a self-inflicted character defect, or mental illness as one TKC denizen explained.

ReplyDelete@ Bryon, landlords, as republicans, they would understand the market. They aren't going to evict anyone if the chances of filling that unit are slim to none given the current situation. It's all about leverage and right now, Tenant's have it, its a renters market.
ReplyDelete40 evictions per day times 30 days in April means there will be at least 1200 vacancies in apartments when the eviction ban is lifted. The Landlords won't be out any additional money because the deadbeats were not going to pay rent anyway.
ReplyDeleteHonorable renters will either make their payments on time or tell the landlord they can't pay but will work out a payment plan for when they go back to work.
Landlords are not going to give good tenants a lot of trouble, but if you are already 2-3 months behind, please don't expect to get relief. You have a problem, and it is not your landlord, it's you.
ReplyDeleteI worked two jobs to save enough to have 3 months rent in the bank for a situation like this. Like alot of people, i just got laid off. Even without the Trump check I'm good. People need to quit relying on the government to care about them.

ReplyDeletethings have changed forever. it could be like the people who lived through the depression: they never forgot.
here's an example of how lifestyles will change. two months ago many young adults never cooked for themselves and either went to restaurants or used delivery services from restaurants as a sort of "room service." now, they're finding themselves too broke to eat out snd having to learn to cook under lockdown. restaurants are unlikely to ever spring back to their previous level, imho.
