Coronavirus has eroded American freedom, destroyed the foundations of the global economy, sparked a troubling resentment among Americans and produced some really horrible Internets singalongs. Now, Mayor Quinton Lucas wants to mandate a confrontational relationship betwixt small biz owners and their customers as small biz quickly pushes back against his plans.
It is decided. Very few people like the idea. And via talk radio, Internets comments, e-mail and every form of online communication . . .
KANSAS CITY HATES THE 10-10-10 PLAN & NOBODY THINKS IT WILL WORK!!!
It's confusing. It misses some key differences between the various types of small biz and, worst of all, it requires people to do math.
One comment out of many from a Kansas City biz community insider . . .
"It's too complicated and he seems to be overthinking it. What's really happening here is that he's trying to save face now that Clay County & NKC have went around him. Nobody else in the nation is reopening this way. The whole idea is a farce."
To his credit, the mayor is still out there pushing this plan and taking a great deal of abuse for it . . . As many supporters admire his good intentions but don't really endorse the deets of the guidelines.
Mayor Quinton Lucas explains:
"I think it’s a reasonable and balanced approach to a responsible reopening that looks to ongoing public health needs. The registry feared is really no different than a restaurant taking reservations or a salon taking appointments . . ."
In the coming days, the plan will get increasingly complicated . . . "More guidelines to be announced in the coming week for places like bars, restaurants and gyms and likely more personal protection equipment, cleaning, and stricter social distancing rules."
And so, good plan or not, Kansas City is quickly moving toward a reopen and what few people want to think about is that is really a gamble with lives at stake one way or another.

I do not need to eat in a restaurant that badly to give up my contact information. Think about this for a moment...with the collection of names, dates, and times that information is a rich source of information for a government agency.

Another ridiculous post that I can't believe would fly on this blog. Yes there are people who disagree with some of the elements of this plan but overall mayor Lucas deserves our respect and admiration for trying to keep the people of Kansas City safe. What have any of you people done to help others during this pandemic? Mary Lucas gave this plan careful consideration and came up with something that benefits not only businesses but also customers in every respect. The most important thing is keeping Kansas City safe and putting people ahead of profits. The criticism that I'm seeing here is just the same old reactionary opposition against every good thing that's happening in our city. Kansas City will make a comeback and it will be in spite of not because of some of the constant complaining that's coming from this blog and the readers.

Despite reports to the contrary, Sweden is paying heavily for its decision not to lockdown. As of today, 2462 people have died there, a much higher number than the neighboring countries of Norway (207), Finland (206) or Denmark (443). The United States made the correct decision!

ReplyDeleteIf we continue to live in a bubble, our immune systems will atrophy and only make the next pandemic worse. The public health community was right to close down businesses initially so that hospitals weren't overrun, but that has not happened, so its time to ease up.
Mary Lucas's plan is a good start but we need to focus on hospitalization rates, not infection rates because the virus has to work its way through the population to that we get to herd immunity.
Contacted the office of Governor Parson, and office of Missouri Attorney General, asking how much money the Meathead Mayor will be able to suck out of government by extending the lockdown until May 15, 2020 so low paid employees, who view him as G-d, can continue to suck two more weeks of unemployment benefits, while others, who want to work, have to face starvation?

Yes, the mortality rate for CoVID is much higher, but experts believe that when asymptomatic infections are considered, the rate is less than 1% and not much different than H1N1 or SARS was. The hysteria surrounding CoVID and the complete destruction of our economy as a result doesn't make logical sense. It's become an excuse for a grab-bag of goodies for every connected corporate interest and a wet-dream for every big government type.
