COVID-19 Busts Kansas City Budget

We've talked about this previously but here's a worthwhile roundup of of a somewhat bigger KCMO budget that FAILED to consider world events. Money line:

"Even that relatively small increase could be in jeopardy due to the recent steep downturn in the local economy caused by the coronavirus pandemic which could cause city tax revenue and expenditures to drop for the next fiscal year if the rapid spread of the virus is not quickly brought under control."

By John Sharp KCMO's $1.7 billion budget for fiscal year 2020-21 beginning May 1 adopted by the City Council March 26 includes only a slight 2.3 percent increase in overall expenditures compared to the current fiscal year's budget, according to City Budget Officer Scott Huizenga.

  2. The City Council should forgo their salaries and the City should eliminate pensions for former city council and mayors.

  3. Be it a 2% increase or 20% increase the end result is identical. The revenue streams for KC MO will be decimated. While Mayor Selfie works to house the homeless the remaining working constituents flee the city. Harsh reality, but until KC MO focuses on the haves the city will have nothing for the have nots.
