The Mission Gateway project remains under a 30 day construction hold that will not be complete until coronavirus stay at home orders are rescinded.
A worthwhile quote on the rough future ahead for this project from a favorite preppie, local journalist:
"The big projects they have planned for this piece of dirt that has been vacant for so long . . . There's a multiplex movie theater, zip line course, escape room, restaurant combination. The big facility next door is a dining hall. These are exactly the kinds of things that public health experts are telling us will not be able to operate full steam until there's a vaccine . . ."
Developing . . . Or not.

Your going to see a many more cases from construction sites. So called essential My A$$. Tell me what is so essential about a Mall getting built. Or any other Non Essential building site. It's really only essential to the owners bank account. I know of a site with 7 confirmed cases from 5 different companies. But keep working because it's an essential job.

ReplyDeleteMission "leaders" have done everything they could to kill this project. They poisoned it worse than RoundUp on a violet. Just raze it and call it East Mission Park. Should have been up and running 5 years ago.

ReplyDelete50% of hotels will not reopen. 70% of restaurants will not reopen. Those that do will have a tough year. Southwest Airlines will be scaling back their company and with in flights to and from kc. New airport could be empty. Auto dealers will face less demand as people have learned thru quarantine that we don't need so many cars. Now with delivery of everything from steaks to stoves and ovens we don't have to shop at brick and mortar anymore. Many companies including motorola have realized they don't need office space anymore! Huge glut of office space forces commercial lending to collapse. Now companies can operate with virtual home offices efficiently and say to hell with billions in wasted dollars on huge rent payments. More zoom and skype use as companies realize that people can and will work from home. Housing market will continue to wallow as lower inventory forces real estate agents to leave business. And cuts by cities/states and fed will feed into unemployment numbers until the economy recovers. Meat shortages are on the way. Trump allowed companies like tyson and smithfield got reduced regulations and inspections under trump. Meant huge cv virus problems in packing plants. Once restaurants gear up again they'll need huge amounts of beef/pork/chicken/etc. and plants won't be processing enough so prices will skyrocket and there will be shortages as farmers turn to euthanasia to keep market steady but to no avail. Stock up people! So this is the new world we're going to face. Good luck everyone and may you stay safe and healthy as the world absorbs the backlash of cv.
ReplyDeleteI've lived in Mission since the Mission Mall was open. Mission has totally screwed-up an opportunity during the best commercial real estate building opportunity of a lifetime. That piece of land could have been amazing, now it's just a suburban big-box nightmare.
