Metro health officials preparing for coronavirus in case local cases appear

KANSAS CITY, Kan. -- As deadly coronavirus illnesses climb in the United States, metro doctors are convinced we're bound to see local cases soon. "We will absolutely be faced with this disease. Majority of patients will likely not require in-patient admission but when they do, we're absolutely ready for them," said Amanda Gartner, a registered nurse with the KU Health System, focused on infection prevention and control.

Potential Exposure Precaution

OVERLAND PARK, KS (KCTV) - Black & Veatch sent a statement Monday saying they are currently monitoring a potential exposure of two employees to the COVID-19 coronavirus. The company sent an email to its employees who work at the Overland Park location near 115th and Metcalf stating that two employees are being monitored for potential exposure.

  1. So will kc be withholding taxpayer subsidy until we know they're in the clear? That would be nice.

  2. Engineers travel all over the world. Where were these two employees recently?

  3. Serious queries: Besides bLIEron, who is dining at, getting takeouts, or having delivery from Chinese eateries, recently? Who buys any products labeled Made In China?

What are the odds that a SARS-like coronavirus with overlapping genetics from HIV mutated and crossed over into humans, next door to a laboratory (Wuhan Institute of Virology)which had been enhancing coronavirus with HIV for over a decade???

  14. B&V do all kinds of China projects dealing with water. One guy there told me they found some very old chinese wastewater lines vented into the same "peatrap" devices as clean water lines. Talk about cross contamination! Lots of bad plumbing there. Of course it could be these B&V people have come in contact with the shops, stores, and thus the Sprint headquarter people right down the street at stores and thus huge numbers of people in Overland Park Ks are possibly exposed. There is a Walmart a few block away. Holy Cow, we could be in the news just like the Diamond Princess Cruise ship! Batman save us all!

  16. Baltimore hospitals are overflowing and the staff are sick too. There will be 2,000 sick there by the 15th. It could easily happen here. Just stay home (if you can).

  17. Is there any point in spreading false rumors, "greg?"

    ReplyDelete
  18. Greg is not posting false rumors. The virus spreads much faster than the flu, cold, or any other illness people have in the winter months. There may well be 2,000 people carrying the virus in Baltimore now, that do not show symptoms. Many people who do have it are thinking they just have the cold and it wont be anything more than a slight cough. But if they spread it to a person on chemo, or a person with any type of transplant, its a huge health concern. Best to error on the safe side and consider this much more dangerous than it appears. It might well mutate into a more dangerous form, or come back every year for the next 10 years. And the dang vaccine might be more dangerous than the virus itself. Many people were given bad batches of polio vaccine and were paralyzed by it. Since the government has only tested 200 people in the USA its hard to say how many people have it. Could be 50, or 500,000. What is false? You cant prove false unless you have the truth to hold over everyone.

I knew these goddamned Chi-Comms would eventually be the death of us.

I thought it'd be due to nuclear war instead of eating slimy street-vendor bats but that's neither here nor there.

  20. The real THREAT are the potholes in KC - lets focus on a cure for that VIRUS!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  21. I am concerned that Police will get sick, stay home, and the news channels will report their low numbers every day and night. Then the guys that do all the shootings in KCMO will be emboldened to just drive all over town and steal what they want. Shooting anyone with much less chance of getting caught. Even with a pretty healthy police force now that has good attendance, the crime is out of control. When city hall closes and the police are home sick - I guess the national guard and a curfew will go into effect. I lived thru that here in KCMO after Martin Luther King died. So I know if could happen again. Greed is a powerful force, just waiting for the weakness to appear, then it strikes with violence that has no limits.

  22. If this virus is not as serious as the flu, then why is Trump on TV about it, and Pence is the new Czar? We lose 30,000 to 65,000 people to the flu all the time and no President ever gets on TV or even mentions it. They just place flu shot signs out in sidewalks by CVS. Something tells me this is different. They must expect more deaths. I can tell Trump was scared on TV, so were all the people on stage. They know alot more than they were telling us. It is part of the government's job to prevent panic and keep order - even if it means not disclosing the whole truth.

People love to panic. Much more fun than staying calm and doing your work.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Yeah, its easy to say its under control Mr President, when we only have 50 cases. China said the same thing when they had 50 cases. there is no way to stop it unless you stay home 95% of the time. Get some good books, Netflix, and freeze a bunch of steaks. Buy some beer on sale, as Coke can't even produce diet coke now - as china cant produce the artifical sweeteners they need. Its going to be a interesting summer with no major league baseball.

  25. I am not worried about the corona virus. I worry about the next H1N1 avian flu mutation that will kill like 1918. If it kills mostly young people, we will end up with not enough workers to support the USA. I guess old people can take their jobs. But the killer flu has been predicted for decades. If this corona goes into a bird with H1N1 and they mutate together we are all in huge trouble. Otherwise this is a walk in the park.

  26. Trump's holding information back? Not telling us the whole truth?

    Shocking.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Finally, a virus that will do what Obamacare had promised. Young people will be fine. The geezers here better head for the hills. We are going to finally thin the herd. This is why Trump is so pissed. This virus is going to kill off his old racist base voters and reelection chances.

"The virus poses the greatest threat to elderly people.

The research shows patients older than the age of 80 had a 14.9% chance of dying after being infected, while those in their 70s were found to have an 8% chance of death.

Patients in their 50s were about three times more likely to die than patients in their 40s, at a rate of 1.3%.

Patients ages 10 to 19 were as likely to die as patients in their 30s, at just 0.2%."

    ReplyDelete
  28. ^^^^ Hoping for people to die late at night. That must be really hard. I hope the people take the prevention of the disease seriously and live to survive. To politicize the sickness of others is disgusting. Shows a very warped sense of the world. What would somebody gain from that, just a lot of hatred and self loathing. I'm sure you have an interest in spreading that kind of nastiness. I'm just glad that most people don't agree.

  29. They'll probably be fine. Thoughts and prayers to them.

  30. Leviticus warned me against eating flying things.

Those Chi-Comms should have taken the advice and quit slurping down the greasy bats.

    ReplyDelete
  31. 2:22, you better tell Trump to STFU. He was (incoherently) politicizing it again at another rally tonight. "Open borders" policy isn't a thing, but Trump is equating that to Democrats that are letting the virus in. BTW, Trump lied and didn't close the borders like he claimed.

"So a lot of good things are happening, but we have strong borders, and really, our tough and early actions have really been proven to be 100% right. We went out, we’re doing everything in our power to keep the sick and infected people from coming into our country.

We’re working on that very hard. We closed our borders very early. I took a lot of heat for that. Remember when I closed the borders to certain areas of the world? I took a lot of heat.

But there are fringe globalists who would rather keep our borders open than keep our infection, think of it, keep all of the infection, let it come in."

    ReplyDelete
  32. Trump asked the pharmaceutical executives today if they could just use the flu vaccine against the coronavirus.

Yep, just when you think he can't get any dumber. He's doing a heck of a job.

    ReplyDelete
  33. ^^^ Remember, they are all getting better, very strongly. We have no deaths and want to keep it that way.

The virus will go away on it's own in April when it warms up.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Thanks BLACK AND BEATCH! You always come through for Kansas City!

  35. Looking to forward to going to Vegas in 2 weeks and dealing with that. Maybe a lot people will cancel their flights and it won't be so bad. One can wish.

  36. Thats a highly populated area, mostly high end professionals. That would devastate Overland Park if they spread it around 119th and Metcalf. Schools, Sprint, B&V, Walmart, Best Buy, Cheese Cake would all close for deep cleaning as required by health dept. I hope O.P. government is taking note of this.

  38. Its really estimated that 70 to 85% of the USA population will get this virus. Most are just going to have cold symptoms. But the 1% that dies will include 1% of your beloved sports stars, singers, actors, 1% of all millionaires, mayors, criminals, drug dealers, 1% of all bar owners and 1% of all city officials. "Dont worry about a 1% death rate". REALLY????

    ReplyDelete
  39. Another snowflake at 1:23. Calm down.

Unless you are over 60. Then you're allowed to freak out.

Just remember who has underfunded the government's effort and total botched travel restrictions, screening and monitoring. Hint, it's the guy that asked why they can't just give flu shots to protect people and that it will go away on it's own.
