TKC MUST SEE!!! KANSAS CITY TOY TRAIN STREETCAR SUFFERS RIDERSHIP DECLINE AMID COVID-19 PANDEMIC PRECAUTIONS!!!

With a great many downtown events closing up shop and tourist traffic down, the pandemic is taking it's toll on this town's frou-frou tourist endeavor.

To wit . . .

KANSAS CITY STREETCARS SUFFER A HUGE DROP IN RIDERSHIP DURING A TYPICALLY BUSTLING TIME OF YEAR!!!

In fairness, here's a look at the precautions they're taking to keep the last remaining travelers safe:

KC STREETCAR RESPONSE TO CORONAVIRUS (COVID-19)

With heightened awareness around the Coronavirus (COVID-19), the KC Streetcar is closely monitoring the situation and will follow instructions and recommendations issued by the City of Kansas City, Missouri and the Kansas City Health Department. Currently, the public directives do not yet affect our planned KC Streetcar operating schedules and service is running as usual. We will communicate any changes in service and operations as needed.

Keeping our KC Streetcar team and passengers safe is our first priority.

As part of the daily maintenance routine, all KC Streetcars receive a thorough cleaning at the end of every day. The cleaning products the team uses are effective against numerous bacteria and viruses, including the Human Coronavirus and Influenza Type A Virus. In addition to cleaning and disinfecting the streetcar vehicles, the KC Streetcar team performs regular cleaning of all streetcar sheltered stops and all glass and shelter frames are cleaned twice a week. The deep cleaning and power washing of all the streetcar stops are performed weekly or as needed.

As is common practice, KC Streetcar team members will immediately remove streetcars from service for cleaning if a passenger creates an unsanitary condition of any kind. If you see an unhygienic surface onboard the streetcar or at a stop, report it to the operator, safety ambassador or another KC Streetcar team member.

The following are performed daily:

1. Clean and disinfect all seats, flip-down seats, seatbacks, handrails, grab bars, and hand straps
2. Broom sweep and mop vehicle floors
3. Clean and disinfect walls
4. Clean and disinfect the articulation bellows
5. Clean and disinfect route map signs
6. Clean and disinfect inside door panels and manual door “open” buttons
7. Clean and disinfect all passenger “stop” buttons
8. Clean all interior glass windows
9. Clean and disinfect both sides of the operator’s compartment glass doors
10. Clean and disinfect both operator seats and all armrests
11. Clean and disinfect the operator control panels and screens
12. Clean interior operator windshields

In response to the current Coronavirus (COVID-19) concerns, additional precautions are being taken including:

1. Hand sanitizer dispensers have been installed on every KC Streetcar vehicle.
2. All streetcar doors are now automatically opened by streetcar operators unless weather or technical conditions do not allow for that.
3. All streetcars in service are cleaned mid-day. Cleanings include wipe downs of all buttons, hand straps, handrails, and grab bars.
4. Cleaning cloths are changed nightly.
5. Mop water is changed multiple times per night during cleanings.
6. On a weekly basis, all cleaning cloths and mops are changed out to new ones.
7. All touchable surfaces inside the KC Streetcars are wiped down with disinfectant sprays that are marked effective against the Coronavirus.
8. Air vents are cleaned regularly to remove any dirt and dust build-up.
9. Operators have been given an increased supply of rubber gloves, hand sanitizer, and Lysol spray.
10. Operators spray down the interior of the streetcar vehicles with Lysol spray prior to departing the Union Station streetcar stop.

  4. Hey, now, I saw some comment here that said there weren't any facts. Have you held the streetcar to that same standard. They don't even allow most of the city to vote on their ride of B.S. and they haven't complied with the will of a vote in 2017. I'm concerned about coronavirus and I think that federal resources are better spent on boosting the economy than wasting money on this garbage.

  6. The last trip one week ago involved two noisy drunks. I got off after two stops and walked the rest of the way. The same issues will follow the buses.

  7. TOP PHOTO -- END OF THE LINE

In hindsight, it was crystal clear that the Sylvester James administration had placed KC's eggs in the wrong basket!!!

(ToyTrain, convention center hotel, airport terminal...all heavily subsidized and unnecessary)

  8. FACT CHECK: No facts here!

Anything to back that statement up? Ridership counts? Statistics? Anybody get electrocuted by the streetcar yet?

No? One single shred of factual evidence will do, my little hyperbolic pal!!!

Didn't fucking think so. Instead it's just a cheap Thursday night shot at something that isn't going anywhere so you might as well get used to it.

The streetcar has given suspicious data for years and exaggerated their rider counts. What about Sly and Visit KC claiming that KC has 25 million visitors a year? The TKC post is 100% correct, the streetcar has fewer riders than it did last year because of the Big 12 cancellation. How can you even think about arguing that? Your point simply is not logical.

You asked for "factual evidence" and this post has that, a today's statement directly from The Streetcar Authority. I actually think that pr should not have been included or should have been abridged.

Are you trying to say that the streetcar is full and jam packed? How is that possible when they just cancelled the Big 12? It seems you're the person who is really making wild claims. There has been a state of emergency declared in Kansas City. It's reasonable that streetcar traffic and people on the street in general would decline.

Stats are collected every month and I've seen this blog post them or link them.

We get it, you don't like this blog but you're obviously obsessed with it if you're showing up @12:55 AM to read it. Get a grip, you have a personal and emotional issue that you need to resolve with yourself and by yourself, don't bother the rest of us with it.

What is the most important thing here is that this is one of the few blogs that contradicts the mainstream media "momentum" lies. The Kansas City Citizens for Responsible Government also do a great job in opposing the streetcar that bypassed local voters and their extension plans that excluded people who wanted to participate. Voter rights are the real issue here!

  9. What's up with the numbers. CDC is supposed to be the go to for CONFIRMED cases and CONFIRMED deaths.

Why is the media reporting much higher numbers than the CDC who reports at noon every day?
Where is the Media getting their counts?

Real or imagined this virus is impacting every fucking thing. Although a real threat the media seems to be driving the panic level even higher each day with 24/7 speculation and inflated numbers OR they could actually be softening the horror which may be coming. Hard to tell which.

  12. Takes the same amount of tax dollars to run it whether it carries 50,000 riders a day or 5. And since it's "free" it's not like the thing helps defray it's own costs or anything.

  15. Wait until the City spends $250 million or more to extend it to UMKC. It will be dirtier than a New York subway by then and it still will just be a bus on rails and nowhere near as fast as a subway.
