TKC INSIDERS TOLD YOU ABOUT CONRONAVIRUS BUDGET IMPACT FIRST!!!

Last week our blog community was FIRST IN KANSAS CITY to talk about the reality of the KCMO budget and the threat of COVID-19 impact.

Today, the newspaper offers editorial follow-up and attempts to feed on our scraps . . .

Coronavirus could decimate KC's budget. Why isn't the City Council playing it safe?

The coronavirus epidemic is causing monumental damage to family budgets and employer balance sheets. Some economists think one in four Americans could be unemployed in the next 90 days, which would mirror the Great Depression of the 1930s.

    1. ^^^ Actually, that's pretty generous considering that toilet paper is pretty hard to get a hold of nowadays and has skyrocketed in value!

  2. The city council "can't play it safe" because so much of what passes for a "budget" consists of bond payments for all the worthless crap that has been subsidized over the many decades or irresponsible decisions.
Those bond holders are a bit tougher to scam than the "renter activists" who smiley selfies Lucas promised $1 million of taxpayer cash and ended up with nada.
And, as debt payments out of the general fund continue to rise and current revenues decrease, what few basic services are provided to residents will shrivel up as well. And maybe layoffs, if the crisis lasts long enough.
    Time to pay up.
    Consequences are due.

  3. The feds can print money, the state and local government entities cannot. No option but a balanced budget. Expect Mayor Selfie to promise the world but ultimately cut services hap-hazardously. Not every crisis has months of lead time.

  4. The amount of TIF money given to friends of the council has already decimated the budget. Just take a look at all the special taxes we pay because there isn't enough money to fund basic services.

  5. When you say "friends" don't you mean "The Mob". Just because organized crime is "respectable" doesn't mean human trafficking, truckloads of narcotics, back room gambling and money laundering has declined in 100 years. It's just not talked about in "polite society" because City Officials kickback to KCPD with sweet "Pension Plans".
