TKC EXCLUSIVE!!! KANSAS CITY BUDGET THREATENED AS HALF OF CITY COUNCIL UNDER COVID-19 SELF-QUARANTINE!!!

This week Kansas City continues on its way to passing a budget with half of the full council absent from public meetings.

To wit . . .

KANSAS CITY INSIDERS WARN THAT MISSING VOTES FROM COUNCIL JEOPARDIZE BUDGET PRIORITIES!!!

Money for police, the film commission and other priorities can now be more easily shifted via a lower threshold for a majority.

Here's the word . . .

"I don't know why they're going ahead with the budget under these circumstances. It's a free for all and the council members now have even more leverage over how the budget will be determined with all of the absences. Through committee substitutes you could see some very wacky stuff getting taxpayer money including but not limited to pet projects, questionable programs and over-funded offices. It's basically open season because nobody is watching. While the world is justifiably worried about the Coronavirus;  We're trusting City Hall to behave properly with an open and unguarded cookie jar of taxpayer funds. This has never worked out well in the past."

  1. Basically what this means is more money for useless anti-crime programs, more sweetheart deals and a few more building project studies that should have been thrown out by the TIF commission.

  6. Now we get to see how strong quinton can really be. The show might be going on but he made a commitment to the film commission people and to hire more police. If he can't live up to those promises, he will disappoint a lot of the people who voted for him.

  7. Why were they in Washington DC at a conference last week anyway with the corona virus scare and traveling is a good way to spread / receive the virus.

The Democrat Party is calling President Trump a racist for banning travel to China and Europe trying to protect American lives and these Democrat KCMO City Council fools are traveling around spreading the virus instead of social distancing. Irresponsible.

Plus they are wasting taxpayer funds that are needed for potholes, health services, police protection etc. by traveling to Washington D.C. which is very expensive.

    1. No Trump is a racist pig for trying to blame China for his own self serving arrogant incompetence.

    2. Uh, the virus started in China and they lied about its severity to the world and did a piss-poor job with it. They made the few journalists documenting what was actually happening (stacks of body bags, etc.) “disappear.” So yeah, it was a Chinese problem.
Trump warned about this in December and everyone said he was diverting from impeachment. He warned again in January and everyone called him a racist. Has he done a great job with this. Not until recently. But who has? Would I trust Biden with this? Hell no.

I don't think the average citizen has one clue how serious this situation is. And of course those waiting for the rainbow unicorns to arrive with the magic medicine.

And how bout those Haulin Ass Gittin Paid folks?

  9. The eight years of the previous mayor and councils have insured that there is no flexibility in the city budget. The increased our financial obligations to such an extent that the loss in revenue that is incurring now and for - potentially - a long while can be catastrophic. The chickens have all come home to roost.

  10. In this day and age if the leaders of this city are to stupid to figure out how to deal with this issue then they are too stupid to be allowed to run it.

    ReplyDelete
  11. ^^These people cannot figure out how to fill a pothole.
Doubtful that any of them know the science behind viruses.

  12. Well city hall, go to Nancy Pelosi she tried to take some of the money for this virus and the people who need it and give it to the abortion clinics. That's where you democrats have your ignorant heads today. Taking money away from someone who needs it and giving it to a baby butcher and a women who isn't smart enough to not get pregnant.

  13. The Finance Committee meeting is a fiasco. These council people should not get paid if they can't attend the meeting.

  14. Nice accompanying photo of KCMO government's decades-long approach to "budgeting" and spending taxpayer money.
    Up in smoke!
    And disappearing into thin air.
With members of the council at home,at least there's less of a chance that the usual lines of grifters and favor-seekers are forming at their office doors looking for the usual handouts.
But the empty-budget ship sailed long ago.
They might want to name the empty cupboard after Barnes and James.
And don't forget $220,000/year Schulte, who cleverly bailed out just in the nick of time.

  15. About all we are going to hear from City Hall from this point is.... Go out to Gates and try the takeout! And buy a gift card for a friend!

  16. 1. Discontinue street car and redeploy those workers.
    2. Discontinue all 18th and Vine spending, redeploy workers
    3. Stop all support of Linwood Grocery.
    4. Stop all subsidiaries of Jazz Museum
Bankruptcy is the other option for KCMO.
This should be no surprise to anyone. When you have 10 plus years of a council which has little to no financial knowledge along with an Urban agenda.
    Detroit declared Bankruptcy in 2013.

  18. Don't forget, with entertainment business shut down, means no money coming in. How much debt will the taxpayers have to come up with when they cannot make the debt payments. The $8M subsidy the taxpayers have been paying for Power & Light will be a drop in the bucket when the bill comes due at the end of the year.

  19. 9:56 - Medical Fact that the Corona Virus originated in Wuhan, CHINA and that China covered it up for a period of time from the rest of the world. Typical Democrat calling people racist who state facts.

Now China is trying to blame the United States. But you a typical Democrat, will even take the side of Communist China over the President Trump. You people are treasonous and care only about Democrat Party power instead of our country's well-being. Just like the Communists when they took over the Soviet Union, China, and Cuba.

After what I have witnessed the last three years from the Democrat Party, I will never support a Democrat President, Democrat Senator, etc. I will never donate to a cause that is allied with the Democrat Party. I will never assist anyone that is associated with the Democrat Party. The United States is first and foremost for me not some communist ideology the Democrat Party wants to convert our beloved country into.

We can't secure our borders because of the Democrats. We cannot prosecute criminals because of the Democrats. We cannot celebrate Christianity because of Democrats. Heck, our children cannot celebrate Christmas in their schools because of Democrats.

  20. 9:56 The virus originated in Communist China. Some suspect a bio-warfare testing accident created the virus as their is a bio-warfare plant outside of Wuhan. What do you want President Trump to say that the virus originated in Scotland so as not to offend anyone?

The Chinese people hate their government but that have no means to overthrow it. That's why we support the 2nd amendment to protect us from authoritarian governments like Communist China.

  39. 5:10 - If it gets that bad the military will step in. May be an opportunity to instill some real law and order. We have basically been in war since 1991 in the Middle East. Lot of combat veterans from tours in Iraq, Afghanistan etc. in KC area that can help their neighborhoods as well. Plus all the deer hunters. Not to panic. We will all get through this. This is a great country with great people. Block out the haters on CNN, ABC etc. They are paid fear-mongers.
