TKC EXCLUSIVE!!! COUNCIL LADY CORONAVIRUS SELF-QUARANTINE SPARKS INSIDER QUESTIONS ABOUT KANSAS CITY SOLID WASTE FUTURE!!!
The impact of COVID-19 on KCMO politics continues to expand.
The 5th district Council Lady recently disclosed an important COVID-19 health precaution documented in the newspaper:
"Councilwoman Ryana Parks-Shaw said she, too, attended the conference and was notified about the attendees who tested positive. She also isn’t exhibiting symptoms but chose to self-quarantine to be cautious.
"Parks-Shaw said she avoided shaking hands or touching elevator buttons at the conference. She left on Wednesday, March 11, so she said her self-quarantine ends Tuesday, March 24."
But here's what the paper didn't mention . . .
COUNCILWOMAN RYANA PARKS-SHAW IS MARRIED TO KCMO SOLID WASTE DIVISION DIRECTOR MICHAEL SHAW AND THERE'S NO GUIDANCE ON HOW HER SELF-QUARANTINE MIGHT IMPACT THE ROLLOUT OF IMPORTANT NEW TRASH PICKUP EFFORTS!!!
Here's the word from AWESOME TKC TIPSTERS . . .
"First of all, I guess we must forgo the questions about a member of council so closely connected with a department leader in Public Works. But what troubles me is that KCMO is ready expand trash pickup staring May 1st and the Solid Waste division will be facing tough challenges. The Councilwoman didn't specify if she'll be at home and how her self-quarantine might impact her husband. Obviously our concern is for their health but there's also the question about transmission and risks that might impact all city workers. They are a power couple -- One high level public spokesman bureaucrat and the other an elected official -- If we're serious about these self-quarantine precautions, then KC needs more disclosure and must protect our Solid Waste Department and Public Works employees.
We've tweeted the question to Council Lady Shaw and will update with any reply.
