Will Kansas City Actually Offer Free Transit? Should It? - Strong Towns

Kansas City, Missouri recently made news by becoming the first major metropolitan area to announce plans to offer free bus service throughout the city. Coverage of this story has been mostly positive...but there have been critiques and warnings as well. Among the latter is "There's no such thing as a free bus."

  3. Free transportation would eventually come back to bite the city in the ass. Nothing is free, and we can't afford continued stupidity like we currently have.

  4. Of course Kansas City is offering free transit, they are taxing the residents to death. Of course the residents are going to continue to pay because democrats really think high taxes are the way to go. Can't drive on the streets for the huge holes but hey you got free transit. Watch out for crabs, dirty butt crack smells and things.

  7. While the street car is "free" the issue with the free is the undesirables riding around all day for free. I took the street car yesterday and didn't enjoy the screaming drunk a few seats back. Next time walking or an Uber would be the better option. Contacting the organization responsible for the street car does not good as they don't even bother documenting the complaints. No accountability. Transportation isn't a day center for the homeless.
