"We don't want that in our neighborhood": South KC residents express opposition to migrant shelter plan

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Arizona-based Vision Quest has filed multiple special-use permit applications with the city to convert old Kindred Hospital at 87th and Troost into an 85-room facility to hold undocumented migrant boys aged 11-17. City leaders have voiced opposition to the plan, and it's not a plan some residents in nearby neighborhoods have any interest in backing, either.

  3. What they probably don't want is a group of 24/7 protesters and media attention in their neighborhood. The facility is essentially a hospital/nursing home facility that could easily be transformed into a place for children to live while ICE, CBP, HHS, and other government agencies can determine who these children are, where they belong, and who they belong with (i.e. making sure they have not been kidnapped from a foreign country).

There's no razor wire, guard dogs, and guard towers like the media wants you to believe. With the influx of kids coming here illegally - both accompanied and unaccompanied, this is probably the most humane and compassionate option available.
