KANSAS CITY STREETCAR SWEARS IT'S CLEAN BUT CRITICS CLAIM THE TOY TRAIN SELFISHLY CHASES FED FUNDS THAT SHOULD GO TO FIGHT CORONAVIRUS!!!

Right now we want to feature an important perspective from one of our VERY BEST TKC READERS regarding the Fed Funds still sought by local transit activists.

Here's the word . . .

"The Feds are spending millions, maybe a trillion or more to fight this Coronaviris pandemic.

"Good luck to the streetcar boys hoping for Federal funding assistance on the stupid streetcar extension to UMKC. Like that's really a priority for the Feds right now.

"By the time they get the 1950's technology streetcar extension to UMKC completed in 2025 (if they're that lucky) it will be obsolete since 8 passenger autonomous driving van shuttles are the way of the future for germ phobic people. The hipsters and Johnson County streetcar riders will hate riding the streetcar all the way on Main Street with low-income people or people of color and they will all be riding the shuttles, just like the Bird Scooter craze took off. "

Whilst this isn't quite a counterpoint, in fairness we want to share a bit of equal time with the Streetcar and take a look at how they're attempting to keep clean during the coronavirus crisis . . .

Keeping our KC Streetcar team and passengers safe is our first priority.

"As part of the daily maintenance routine, all KC Streetcars receive a thorough cleaning at the end of every day. The cleaning products the team uses are effective against numerous bacteria and viruses, including the Human Coronavirus and Influenza Type A Virus. In addition to cleaning and disinfecting the streetcar vehicles, the KC Streetcar team performs regular cleaning of all streetcar sheltered stops and all glass and shelter frames are cleaned twice a week. The deep cleaning and power washing of all the streetcar stops are performed weekly or as needed.

"As is common practice, KC Streetcar team members will immediately remove streetcars from service for cleaning if a passenger creates an unsanitary condition of any kind. If you see an unhygienic surface onboard the streetcar or at a stop, report it to the operator, safety ambassador or another KC Streetcar team member."

  1. streetcar is a risk. Maybe it's time to shut it down and save KC some money.

  2. That is an amazing priority when there is a major health crisis and the city is completely falling apart right in front of our eyes, when your priority is making money off the developers over the health and well being of the people......

  3. The streetcar is more 1890s technology. By the 1950s cities were adopting buses as mass transit because they were much more flexible.

Buses are transit. The streetcar is nostalgia.

  4. How to waste money 101. How to show people you have no idea how to stimulate the Kc Metro economy 101. We need more Bike paths for the shaved legged Rainbow boys in spandex. Wasting all our tax funds.

  5. But lil' Davie Johnson says it's PRECIOUS!

  6. There should be no more than nine riders at a time.... seems impractical to keep it running and to continue duplicating bus service.

  7. Street car needs to be shut down just like everything else Lucas wants shut down in this town.
